I am someone that struggles a lot with major decisions and purchases, and am often crippled by my own indecision. When my partner and I started talking seriously about getting engaged (at least THAT’S a decision I was able to make), he asked me what I wanted in a ring and I had no idea, other than knowing I did not want a diamond, and that I thought sapphires were beautiful.
We found the Natural Sapphire Company when searching for jewelers in NYC that specialized in non-diamond engagement rings. This transparency also helped us realize that our money went so much further than it would if we were to buy a traditional diamond engagement ring. Both of us also knew that assurance that a stone was ethically sourced was important, and the Natural Sapphire Company provides a high level of transparency in their sourcing, so we could be certain that I had a conflict-free stone.
When we got serious enough to make an appointment, we were assigned Katherine and she was amazing. I know people in customer service need to be patient, but my goodness, she was so kind and never made me feel badly for struggling to make a decision. We saw her 3 times (!!!) before deciding on a stone and a setting, because I just could not make up my mind. She started by showing us some pre-made rings, to get a sense of my style. She asked me what kind of things I liked, and pulled a wide variety of stones. She suggested color-change sapphires because she thought what I was after was something unique and that they were (her words) like a beautiful magic trick. When she pulled a few of them, I knew, that was it! I found one that I absolutely loved and she took out the special flashlight to give me an idea of what it would look like in different environments. She gave us mock ups of multiple solitaire settings, and that choice was easier to make. Maybe she was blowing smoke, but when my partner picked it up, she said that she always has to tell customers that their ring designs are beautiful, but in this case, she really believed it.
What we loved about this process is how personal it all was, regardless of our budget. For reference, my ring is a 2 carat, eye clean, untreated, vivid color-change Ceylon sapphire set in platinum and was $4,200 flat. While by no means a small amount of money, I’ve purchased a car for a lot more than that and didn’t get anything nearly close to the level of attention I got here. Katherine and the rest of the company did a wonderful job of making us feel important and special. And oh my goodness I LOVE MY RING – it has a beautiful and dramatic color change and I’ve never seen anything like it before. I cannot stop staring at it, and I know this is a ring I will adore wearing for life. Thank you so much, Katherine and team, for helping make our engagement unforgettable.
