16.04 Ct. Yellow Sapphire from Ceylon (Sri Lanka)

This C.Dunaigre certified Vivid Yellow sapphire is a transparent, oval shape gem weighing 16.04 carats, with dimensions 15.45 x 12.34 x 9.51 mm, a mixed brilliant cut, and an excellent polish. The clarity grade is very slightly included evaluated at eye level, the color intensity is intense, and there has been no enhancement. The origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, and the stone presents the strong, pure yellow tone and clean light performance associated with high quality Ceylon material.

The journey of this sapphire began in Sri Lanka, where experienced miners identified and recovered the rough from known gem bearing gravels and shallow alluvial deposits. The rough was selected for its color and potential yield, then passed to skilled local cutters who planned a mixed brilliant pavilion and faceting scheme to balance weight retention, optical performance, and face up color. During cutting and polishing the lapidary work focused on maximizing the vivid yellow saturation and maintaining excellent surface finish, while preserving as much of the natural crystal as practical given the stone geometry. After cutting the gem underwent detailed evaluation and grading, confirming the very slightly included clarity at eye level, the intense color, and the absence of any treatments, and the completed stone received a C.Dunaigre certificate documenting those findings.
