Product description

This item is a transparent 1.29 carat yellow sapphire, radiant shape, with finished dimensions 6.12 x 5.22 x 4.50 mm, cut and polished by experienced lapidaries, clarity grade very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, light color intensity, no enhancement, origin Ceylon Sri Lanka. The radiant cut combines a square to rectangular outline with truncated corners, employing a hybrid facet scheme that blends a dense brilliant facet pattern on the crown with step influenced facets along the pavilion, this specimen exhibiting the controlled symmetry and facet junctions that characterize high grade radiant cutting. The crown plane and table are cut to provide a balanced interplay of large bright facets and smaller scintillating facets, the result being a lively face up appearance that maintains a soft, warm lemon tone without overpowering dispersion or dark windowing. The polish is excellent, each facet junction showing crispness and reflective continuity, evidence of the careful preforming and final lap work used to preserve native weight while maximizing optical return. The clarity at eye level is exceptionally clean for this light yellow category, with only minute inclusions visible under magnification that do not interrupt the main facet reflections, this level of clarity offering superior transparency and a near gem quality finish preferred by collectors and designers alike.

Optically, the sapphire demonstrates the expected behavior of corundum, with strong refractive indices producing well defined facet contrast and a pleasing balance between brilliance and color. The facet architecture of this radiant cut channels light from the crown facets into a spectrum of internal reflections, producing crisp white flashes and soft yellow body color that reads as harmonious at multiple viewing angles, the slight depth of the pavilion contributing to fuller color saturation without materially sacrificing brightness. From a material science perspective, sapphire is corundum, Mohs hardness 9, second only to diamond on the common hardness scale, this hardness confers outstanding resistance to scratching and abrasion for daily wear, making this stone an excellent choice for rings and other frequently handled jewelry. By contrast white opal, an attractive pairing option for contrast settings, typically measures between Mohs 5.5 and 6.5 depending on water content and microstructure, this difference in mechanical hardness has important implications for setting design and long term durability, and will be discussed in the following section.

When considering a paired design using white opal together with this yellow sapphire, the technical differences are central to successful execution, white opal offers a creamy body tone and potential play of color on its surface, it is valued for optical depth and internal color play rather than structural hardness. Because white opal is substantially softer and often more susceptible to impact and dehydration, we recommend protective settings such as full bezel or partial channel mounts for opal elements, while the sapphire can be set in prongs or semi bezel constructions to maximize light entry and sparkle. In combined compositions the sapphire provides a durable focal point, its light intensity offering a subdued lemon hue that complements the warm undertones of many white opals, careful metal selection and profile engineering will prevent chipping of the opal and preserve both stones, for example a raised sapphire prong cluster with a low profile opal bezel protects the opal while allowing the sapphire to display its radiant facet pattern freely. At The Natural Sapphire Company we assess each pairing with both aesthetic and engineering criteria, recommending appropriate gasket materials and periodic maintenance for opal bearings, advising against ultrasonic cleaning for opal components, and suggesting gentle warm water and mild detergent cleaning for assembled pieces.

In summary this 1.29 carat radiant yellow sapphire from Ceylon Sri Lanka represents a technically refined specimen, transparent with very very slight inclusions at eye level, expertly cut in the radiant tradition to balance brilliance and color, and finished with an excellent polish and no enhancement. Its corundum hardness of Mohs 9 ensures robust scratch resistance and suitability for everyday jewelry applications, however when designed alongside white opal the softer opal requires protective mounting and mindful care to ensure long term performance. For clients and designers who seek a marriage of technical integrity and refined aesthetics, The Natural Sapphire Company can provide custom mounting guidance, detailed setting drawings, and recommended care protocols to optimize both the sapphire and white opal components for beauty and longevity.
