Product description

This offering from The Natural Sapphire Company is a transparent 1.14 carat, emerald cut, bi color sapphire, with precise dimensions of 6.84 by 4.99 by 3.32 mm. The stone exhibits a medium color intensity, and the clarity is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level. The cut is a classical emerald style, with long, parallel step facets and truncated corners, producing a rectilinear profile that emphasizes color zoning and linear light return. The polish is rated excellent, and the sapphire has been heat treated, a standard and stable enhancement for Ceylon material, applied to refine hue distribution and optimize internal transparency. The origin is Ceylon Sri Lanka, and the overall presentation reflects both the natural character of the rough and deliberate lapidary choices that respect the gem chemistry and growth features of corundum.

Technically, the geometric faceting is engineered to maximize light play within the constraints of an emerald cut profile. The long table and broad step crown create a sequence of parallel planes that act as reflective corridors, allowing light to travel along the length of the stone and reemerge as controlled flash, rather than the scintillation pattern more typical of brilliant cuts. The step facets are configured with precise symmetry and even facet widths, which produce repeated mirror images across the table and pavilion, creating the visual effect often described as a hall of mirrors. For a bi color sapphire, this step arrangement enhances the perception of color separation, because the parallel facet planes maintain distinct angular windows into different color zones, allowing purples and blues to present with clear boundaries and graded transitions according to the viewing angle.

From a gemological and cutting perspective, attention to facet junction sharpness and angle relationships was prioritized to optimize internal reflection and color saturation. Corundum has a refractive index approximately 1.76, and the cutter balanced pavilion depth and crown height to respect that optical constant, reducing light leakage and minimizing windowing that would otherwise dilute perceived color intensity. The result is an emerald cut that returns a robust amount of light through the table while still preserving the linear color characteristics unique to a bi color sapphire. Inclusions are very slight at eye level, and their distribution is such that they do not interrupt the primary light pathways created by the step facets, therefore they have minimal impact on brilliance and optical continuity. The excellent polish further enhances facet transparency, permitting unobstructed interaction between incident light and the internal structure of the stone.

For practical use and design integration, the stone is ideally suited as a signature center for a bespoke engagement ring or a refined pendant where the elongated emerald form can be showcased. The geometry favors settings that expose the table and allow light to enter from multiple directions, for example a four prong or bezel with open gallery designs, which will permit the stone to display its bi color character as it rotates. Because the stone is heat treated and originates in Ceylon Sri Lanka, The Natural Sapphire Company discloses treatment and provenance information consistently, and we can provide full documentation on request to support appraisal and insurance needs. The balanced proportions, controlled faceting, and refined polish make this gem a technical statement piece for buyers who appreciate how facet architecture, clarity management, and controlled enhancement combine to produce a predictable and pleasing light performance, while retaining the natural duality of color that distinguishes high quality bi color sapphires.
