This is a 3.76 carat oval blue star sapphire, cut as a traditional cabochon with dimensions of 8.24 by 7.70 by 5.63 millimeters, certified by Other and originating from Ceylon Sri Lanka, Lab Color Classification Blue, no enhancement noted. The gem is translucent with a medium intense blue color grade, and an excellent polish that preserves a clean reflective dome, the cabochon profile optimized to display asterism. Clarity is graded very slightly included evaluated at eye level, the inclusions consist primarily of oriented rutile silk, which under directed light forms a sharp six ray star centered on the dome, the silk distribution is sufficiently dense and parallel to produce a well defined star without significant diffusing clouds.
From a cutting and material perspective the piece demonstrates classical star sapphire craftsmanship, the dome height and oval outline are proportioned to maximize star mobility while retaining overall brilliance, the cutter has maintained a smooth transition from girdle to dome which minimizes light leakage and enhances the contrast of the asterism. The medium intense body color provides a balance that allows the white star to read strongly without washing the blue, the overall translucency supports three dimensional depth, so the star appears to float above internal planes rather than lying flat on the surface. Under direct lighting the star shows crisp arm definition, central convergence and good symmetry, the polished surface is free of significant abrasions which preserves sharpness of the star during wear.
For setting and practical use consider a bezel or low prong mount oriented along the long axis of the oval to protect the girdle and to present the star when viewed flat on, avoid high heat exposure and harsh chemicals since the stone is unenhanced and natural features define its value. The Natural Sapphire Company can provide additional imaging and viewing angles to confirm star behavior under different lighting, and the certified provenance from Ceylon Sri Lanka adds collectible appeal for connoisseurs who prioritize natural asterism and traditional cutting technique.
