Product description

This pendant is conceived as a true solitaire, a single, striking gemstone held at the center of an engineered bezel frame, offering a timeless, classic look with restrained elegance. The solitaire emphasis is achieved through strict proportional control between the center stone dimensions and the surrounding metal, assuring that the face up area remains the visual priority. For faceting, the design accommodates a range of cuts, from round brilliant stones with optimized pavilion angles for maximum return of light, through mixed cuts that combine brilliant facets on the crown with step facets on the pavilion to balance fire and color, to step cut stones such as emerald cuts and asschers which present broad, clean facets that emphasize hue and clarity rather than scintillation. The ability to accept multiple faceting styles means the setting is dimensioned for precise bezel seats, with seat angles matched to the crown girdle angles of the selected cut to maintain concentric alignment and prevent stress concentrations at the girdle. Proportional table sizes are considered in the design stage, so a larger table on a step cut stone presents a refined plane within the bezel, whereas smaller tables on brilliant cuts maximize apparent depth and sparkle, all while remaining centered and secure.

The bezel setting itself is a smooth metal border that encircles the stone, fabricated to exacting tolerances to enhance both durability and aesthetics. Bezel wall thickness is calibrated to the center stone size, typically ranging between 0.9 mm and 1.6 mm in our standard executions, with the internal seat machined to a tolerance of a few hundredths of a millimeter to prevent micro movement. The internal profile may be slightly contoured to match the stone girdle, producing a continuous line of metal that is burnished over the girdle to create mechanical retention without relying on fragile prongs. For step cut stones, the bezel profile is typically flatter and more parallel to the pavilion, preserving the planar geometry of the crown, whereas for brilliant and mixed cuts the bezel can be raised subtly to protect high crown facets while still allowing direct light entry through the table. The pendant pictured shows an octagonal outer profile that echoes common emerald cut proportions, and channels are incorporated into the gallery to allow lateral light to reach the pavilion, which preserves scintillation while maintaining the protective benefits of a full bezel.

Material selection and metallurgy play a direct role in the visual and structural outcome, and this setting is available in 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 18K yellow gold, and platinum 950. Each alloy influences color rendition and mechanical behavior, and those distinctions are important to knowledgeable buyers. Rose gold adds warm undertones that can slightly intensify the perceived saturation of rubies and warm sapphires, whereas yellow gold reinforces warm hues in rubies and certain emeralds. White gold and platinum provide a neutral backdrop that is well suited to blue sapphires and stones where true color fidelity is desired. Platinum 950 offers higher density and superior tensile strength, enabling finer wall sections without compromising security, while 18K alloys deliver greater gold content for richer tones, and 14K alloys provide increased hardness for high wear applications. Rhodium plating can be applied to white gold finishes to maintain a bright white appearance, and finishes can be specified as high polish to maximize reflective contrast, or as soft satin to reduce surface glare and emphasize the gemstone plane.

The design enhances both security and visual appeal through integrated mechanical and optical considerations, and by providing customization options to suit the chosen center stone. From a security perspective, the full wrap of the bezel protects the stone girdle from impacts and abrasion, reduces the likelihood of chipping for stones with softer edges, and prevents prong deformation that can lead to loss. For emeralds which typically exhibit internal inclusions and may have undergone oils or resins treatments, the bezel minimizes exposure to contaminants and reduces the chance of chip propagation along internal fissures. For corundum gemstones such as sapphires and rubies which score nine on the Mohs scale, the bezel still provides an excellent defense against lateral knocks while preserving the stone profile. Optically, the bezel can be tuned to enhance perceived color and depth, through choices such as a closed back to intensify body color by limiting light leakage, or an open back with gallery windows to increase brilliance and allow the hue to respond dynamically to ambient light. The smooth metal border also creates a strong visual bezel line that frames the stone, producing a modern, architectural silhouette, while hand finishing of the bezel rim is used to eliminate tool marks and to create a seamless transition between metal and gem, which is critical for both longevity and aesthetic harmony. Custom options include modifying bezel height, internal seat angle, back opening, and bail integration, all of which allow the setting to be engineered precisely for the chosen gemstone, whether sapphire, ruby, emerald, or another calibrated gemstone, yielding a pendant that is both technically optimized and quietly elegant.
