Product description

From the moment this yellowish brown sapphire first caught the light beneath the Ceylon sun, it began a journey that ties the patient hand of nature to the careful eye of the lapidary. Born in the gem gravels and alluvial soils of Sri Lanka, a place long revered for producing sapphires of rare personality, this stone carries the story of deep time, shifting rivers, and mineral rich veins. The rough crystal was recovered with its natural terminations intact, and rather than erase that story, our cutters chose to honor it. The result is a beautiful translucent sapphire that retains a raw, organic silhouette while benefiting from a refined finish, a balance that lets you wear the landscape and geology of Ceylon close to the skin.

This piece weighs 10.82 carat, and its various shape spans 24.33 x 8.89 x 6.81 mm, a generous size that reads as both statement and intimate treasure. It shows a medium color intensity in a warm yellowish brown that shifts subtly as it moves, catching golden daylight and yielding a softer honey tone under indoor lighting. The cut is described as a rough crystal cut, which means the cutter preserved much of the original crystal geometry, trimming and polishing only where it enhanced beauty and wearability. The polish is excellent, giving the surface a smooth, reflective finish that contrasts in a pleasing way with the stone natural form. Importantly, this sapphire is untreated, it has no enhancement, and its origin is certified as Ceylon Sri Lanka, details that matter to collectors and lovers of authentic natural gems.

Within the body of the stone are the tiny signatures that make this sapphire an individual rather than a mass produced commodity. At eye level the clarity is graded slightly included, which means you can see delicate internal features with careful viewing, features that are not flaws but fingerprints of creation. There are scattered mineral inclusions and fine dotted specks that appear like tiny islands of darker material, likely iron oxide and other accessory minerals that were present during the crystal growth. You will also notice gentle growth zoning and faint striations along the crystal, a map of the changing chemistry and temperature as layers accreted over eons. These inclusions help gemologists confirm natural origin and locality, and for the wearer they become an intimate record of place, a proof of authenticity that no laboratory treatment can reproduce. Each speck and line tells a moment in the stone life, a chapter that makes it uniquely yours.

This sapphire pairs beautifully with other natural gems, and for contrast we like to recommend White Opal when designing a custom setting, because the opal type White Opal brings a soft luminous backdrop that heightens the warm golden tones of the sapphire. Imagine a bezel or gallery lined with white opal accents, the opal milky flashes playing against the honeyed body of the sapphire, or a pendant that uses a slice of White Opal as a luminous base for the crystal. At The Natural Sapphire Company we craft settings that respect the character of each stone, and this piece begs for a design that highlights its elongated form and natural terminations. A long open setting or a custom bar ring will allow light to travel through the stone and showcase the polish and the internal landscape. For those who prefer a more sculptural approach, leaving one of the crystal tips slightly exposed will celebrate the rough crystal cut and maintain the feeling that you are holding a piece of Ceylon in your hand.

Owning this sapphire is to hold a small geological biography, one that begins in the rivers and soils of Sri Lanka and continues with your personal story. It is ideal for a wearer who values provenance, natural formation, and the visual poetry of inclusions that are read as character rather than imperfection. The stone is robust enough for regular wear if set with care, and because it carries no enhancements and an excellent polish, it will age with a steady, honest patina. At The Natural Sapphire Company we stand behind our gem selection, and we welcome questions about pairing this sapphire with White Opal or other gemstones, as well as inquiries about custom design options that will preserve and highlight its singular features. If you wish to see the stone in different lighting or to discuss mounting options, our gem specialists are available to guide you through the creative possibilities.
