Product description

From the moment this sapphire first formed deep within the ancient soils of Ceylon, it began a journey that bridges earth and artistry, tradition and modern craft. Buried for millennia in gem gravels and crystallized under patient geological forces, the crystal that would become this cushion shaped pink sapphire was coaxed from the earth by hands familiar with the old ways of Sri Lankan mining, and brought to light with the same reverence that local miners have shown for generations. We at The Natural Sapphire Company take care to honor that lineage, tracing the story of each stone from its source to the workbench. This particular gem weighs 7.55 carats, measures 13.03 x 8.62 x 6.99 millimeters, and wears a mixed brilliant cut that marries table and crown architecture to create a lively interplay of color and fire. Transparent and intensely colored, with a clarity grade of slightly included when evaluated at eye level, it has an excellent polish and most importantly it is untouched by enhancement, a pure testament to nature and skill combined.

Ceylon has been a cradle of sapphires for centuries, a place where legends grew alongside the gems themselves, and where each find is imbued with cultural memory. In the island s ancient chronicles, sapphires were tokens of royal favor, stones set into crowns and offered in temple rituals, symbols of protection and prosperity carried by kings and pilgrims alike. The alluvial fields and weathered rock outcrops that gave up this pink sapphire have been tended by families whose methods have been passed down, an intergenerational knowledge of where to look and how to listen to the land. That provenance is more than geography, it is heritage, and it brings a narrative depth to the gem s vivid hue. The soft, yet intense pink of this stone evokes the coral lined dawns over Sri Lanka s coasts, it recalls the warmth of lacquered temple doors in the sunlight, and it resonates with a centuries old appreciation for color that speaks to heart and status.

The cutting of this cushion shaped gem was a careful conversation between cutter and crystal, a dialogue in which angles, facets, and proportions were negotiated to maximize the sapphire s innate strengths. The mixed brilliant cut combines a brilliant crown with step or modified facets below, a hybrid choice that balances scintillation with color saturation. Measured at just over thirteen by eight and a half millimeters, the stone retains a pleasing presence on a finger or in a pendant, while the depth of nearly seven millimeters gives it volume and life. Slight inclusions, visible at eye level to an experienced grader, are part of the stone s honest personality, telling of its natural formation and adding character without detracting from its transparency or brilliance. The excellent polish reflects careful faceting and gem finishing, allowing light to dance across the surface and through the pavilion. Because this sapphire is untreated, the pink tone is true to its origin, an intense color that has not been altered by heat or other interventions, and that rarity of untreated intensity is a key part of the stone s appeal.

Through centuries, pink sapphires have been cherished in traditional jewelry and ritual, used as love tokens, protective talismans, and symbols of favor and devotion. In many cultures, especially on the Indian subcontinent and in Sri Lanka, pink and padparadscha tones were favored for bridal pieces and auspicious gifts, believed to bring emotional balance and to honor beauty and dignity. This gem sits squarely in that tradition, ready to be set in an engagement ring that honors an old world sense of permanence, or in a pendant that channels temple worn aesthetics into contemporary design. The Natural Sapphire Company brings expertise in marrying these historical uses with modern expectations, working with artisans who understand both the symbolic language of gemstones and the technical requirements of fine jewellery. Worn as a signet of devotion, or as a daily reminder of a connection to the earth and to human craft, this sapphire carries with it layers of meaning that make it more than just a pretty stone.

Owning this 7.55 carat Ceylon pink sapphire means holding a piece of geological time and cultural narrative in your hand, a jewel whose origin is documented, and whose condition is rare in the market because it is unenhanced. Its size and shape make it versatile for bespoke commissions, from classic four prong settings that allow light to breathe, to halo styles that frame its intense pink with delicate diamonds, to solitary pendants that let its color speak alone. Caring for such a gem is straightforward, sensitive to its natural beauty, and will ensure the stone can be worn and handed down as an heirloom. We invite you to consider how this sapphire might continue its story with you, to become part of family lore and future tradition. At The Natural Sapphire Company we are custodians of these stories, and we are ready to work with you to realize a piece that honors the gem s origin, its craftsmanship, and the long human history of reverence for colored stone.
