This GIA certified pink sapphire, offered by The Natural Sapphire Company, is a transparent 4.02 carat pear shape with dimensions of 12.82 x 7.71 x 5.38 mm, cut in a mixed brilliant style and graded very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, with intense color intensity and an excellent polish. Origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, and the stone has been heat treated to enhance its natural hue. The pear shape presents a graceful outline and a generous table, while the mixed brilliant cut combines a faceted pavilion designed for optimal light return with a crown pattern that balances color saturation and scintillation. The result is a stone with clean face up appearance, lively facet contrast, and a refined surface finish that confirms the excellent polish grade reported by the laboratory.
The sparkle and visual behavior of this sapphire arise directly from corundum crystal properties and the cutter's choices. Corundum has a relatively high refractive index in the range that produces strong internal reflection, and a modest birefringence that, together with the material's pleochroism, allows subtle shifts in tone and depth as the stone is viewed from different angles. Because sapphires have low dispersion, the fire elements common to diamonds are restrained, so brilliance is achieved through precise facet geometry, well controlled pavilion angles, and crisp facet junctions rather than through spectral color flashes. In this stone the mixed brilliant scheme concentrates light into concentrated flashes along the pear outline, while the pavilion facets act as mirrors to return light through the table, producing a clean and lively scintillation pattern. The very slightly included clarity at eye level ensures that light passage is largely unobstructed, maintaining transparency and contrast between bright and dark facets. The excellent polish minimizes surface light leakage and maintains sharp, reflective facet facets, which is essential for achieving maximum apparent brightness. Collectively, the corundum structure, the intense pink color from Ceylon origin, the careful mixed brilliant cutting, and the high degree of polish produce a balanced, vibrant sparkle that reads as lively and refined, a characteristic that distinguishes this 4.02 carat pear from other gems in its class.
