Product description

This peach sapphire began its life beneath the tropical skies of Ceylon Sri Lanka where centuries of gem lore and the patient hands of local miners have made this island legendary among gem collectors, miners, and connoisseurs. In soft alluvial gravels and weathered bedrock pockets a crystal of corundum slowly revealed its warm, delicate tone, and when it reached the light for the first time it showed promise of clarity and a transparent purity that would reward careful cutting rather than heavy enhancement. At The Natural Sapphire Company we discovered this stone during a search for sapphires that embody natural beauty without alteration, and its journey from mine to market respects both the people who found it and the gem itself. We set aside this oval 2.13 carat peach sapphire with dimensions of 8.03 by 7.46 by 4.20 millimeters because it carried a rare combination of even, medium color intensity, a transparency that allows light to pass freely, and a clarity grading of very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, so that its internal world remains serene when seen without magnification. There has been no enhancement to alter its color or clarity, and the excellent polish applied by master cutters allowed the stone to reflect its natural character, while preserving the story of its origin in Ceylon Sri Lanka.

The cutter who shaped this sapphire read the crystal the way an editor reads a manuscript, looking for the lines of grain, the subtle planes of the trigonal crystal system, and the place where the stone would best return light to the eye. The result is an oval with a mixed brilliant cut, a design that merges a brilliant style crown with a more structured pavilion, so that each facet is tuned to capture light and send it back as scintillation, sparkle, and a whisper of fire. The physics inside a sapphire matters, and corundum rewards skillful faceting, because its refractive index and dispersion, and its hard durable lattice, all conspire to make light linger and play. Light enters the polished table, meets precisely angled crown facets that scatter rays into a choreographed dance, and then engages with the pavilion where total internal reflection guides the light back through the crown in flashes of brilliance. The very very slightly included clarity means the paths available for light are largely free of interruption, the excellent polish removes micro roughness that would otherwise scatter light into dullness, and the mixed brilliant motif creates contrast and bright flashes in equal measure. The peach tone rides across these flashes warming them, so that reflections read as champagne and coral at different moments, making this sapphire sparkle in a way that feels both lively and soft.

When you hold this oval peach sapphire you are holding a compact history of geology, human skill, and careful stewardship, a gem that sits elegantly on a finger or graces a pendant with presence rather than noise. At 2.13 carats the stone is large enough to be a true focal point, and its 8.03 by 7.46 by 4.20 millimeter dimensions translate to a comfortable scale for many settings, especially those that accentuate the oval silhouette and allow light to enter from the sides as well as the top. The mixed brilliant cut invites designers to choose settings that show off its facets, such as low bezels with open galleries, classic prong mounts that let the pavilion breathe, or bespoke creations that echo the soft peach color with warm metals and delicate complementary side stones. Because this sapphire is natural and untreated, it carries rarity and authenticity, and because The Natural Sapphire Company curated and certified its journey, you have the reassurance of provenance, gemological assessment, and the opportunity to set this gem in a piece that will be worn, admired, and valued for generations. If you seek a sapphire whose sparkle is born of crystalline structure and thoughtful cutting rather than post mine alteration, this peach sapphire is an invitation to own something both scientifically remarkable and emotionally resonant, a luminous fragment of Ceylon that has been given a second life through expert cutting and careful presentation.
