Product description

This one point one nine carat oval shape purplish pink sapphire from Ceylon Sri Lanka presents an exacting combination of weight and proportion, with measurements of 6.31 x 5.55 x 4.47 mm. The stone is transparent, and it has been fashioned with a mixed brilliant cut, a cutting style that pairs a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown with a modified pavilion, to optimize both scintillation and light return. The clarity grade is described as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, which in practice means that the stone is visually clean to the unaided eye, while minor internal characteristics remain intact as natural fingerprints of the crystal. The color has been graded as vivid in intensity, and the overall finish is characterized by an excellent polish. The stone has been heat treated, a stable and widely accepted enhancement used to refine hue and saturation, and it is offered through The Natural Sapphire Company with full disclosure of origin and treatment.

From a gemological and lapidary perspective, the mixed brilliant cut on this oval employs a carefully proportioned crown and pavilion geometry to produce an optimized balance between return of white light and colored light. The crown employs brilliant cut facets that create a lively pattern of small, bright flashes across the table, enhancing apparent brightness and fire. The pavilion has been modified to support strong contrast and directional light return, with facet junctions cut to tight tolerances so that scintillation remains crisp rather than diffuse. The girdle appears well centered relative to the table, preserving symmetry, and the culet is controlled to avoid light leakage. The excellent polish is visible at the facet junctions, where smooth facet planes and sharp edges reduce light scattering and preserve saturation. The very slightly included clarity grade indicates that inclusions do not materially impede light transmission, and the combination of transparency and facet precision yields an optical performance that reads as lively and saturated when mounted in reflective settings.

Color and optical character are central to this sapphire. The base hue registers as a purplish pink, where purple and pink components are both present and contribute to a vivid saturation with medium to medium deep tone. That balance of hue yields a visually rich face up color that performs strongly under both natural daylight and warm incandescent sources. Like many corundum specimens from Ceylon, this stone displays an even color distribution across the table and pavilion, which indicates both high quality rough selection and meticulous cutting. Pleochroism can be present in pink to purplish pink sapphires, and this example may show slight shifts toward a deeper purplish cast or a purer pink tone when the stone is rotated, a trait that can be used to choose orientation for mounting. Heat treatment was applied to enhance tone and saturation in a stable manner, and it is customary to set such material in designs that maximize light exposure, such as prong settings with open crowns, or halo settings that contrast the vivid color against white diamonds or a white metal. For clients seeking a warmer presentation, rose gold will deepen the perceived pink component, while platinum or white gold will emphasize brilliance and cool contrast.

Beyond its gemological particulars, this purplish pink sapphire carries a range of metaphysical associations that are frequently attributed to corundum variants with similar hue and intensity. Traditionally, pink and purplish pink sapphires are linked to the heart center, and they are believed to promote emotional balance, compassion, and harmonious relationships, while the purple component is associated with heightened intuition and inner clarity. Practitioners and collectors often use such stones in meditation to encourage calm focus, to gently release old emotional patterns, and to support creative expression. The vivid saturation of this particular stone is thought by some to amplify feelings of confidence and personal empowerment, while the stable nature of heated corundum reinforces symbolic associations with endurance and resilience. As with all metaphysical practices, effects are subjective, and these properties are presented as traditional associations rather than empirical claims. For care, this sapphire will retain its color and polish with routine gentle cleaning in warm soapy water and a soft brush, while abrasive cleaners and prolonged exposure to strong chemicals should be avoided, and professional cleaning is recommended for set pieces. The Natural Sapphire Company is pleased to offer this precisely cut, vividly colored Ceylon purplish pink sapphire to clients who value both technical excellence and the traditional symbolic meanings associated with fine corundum.
