This 1.21 carat Montana yellow sapphire presents as a transparent, oval shape with precise measurements of 8.14 x 6.04 x 2.80 mm, cut in a classic rose cut that emphasizes face up surface area and a soft, luminous glow. The rose cut features a domed crown composed of large, triangular and kite style facets terminating on a flat or slightly faceted pavilion, and in this example the cutter has retained weight while orienting facet junctions to enhance color distribution and reduce windowing. The result is a pleasing balance between spread and depth, with a shallow profile that maximizes perceived size and allows the medium color intensity to appear even and saturated across the table. Color sits in the warm yellow family with a golden lemon tone that responds to directional light by shifting from soft buttery yellow to a richer honeyed hue. Clarity has been graded as very slightly included at eye level, with minor pinpoint and feather type characteristics that do not detract from transparency or light transmission. The polish is excellent, yielding crisp facet junctions and clean reflective planes that cooperate with the rose cut geometry to produce a gentle scintillation rather than high contrast brilliance.
From a durability and care perspective this sapphire is corundum, registering a 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond which is a 10, and significantly harder than other common jewelry gems such as quartz and topaz. This places the gem in a category suited to everyday wear, resisting scratching and abrasion under normal use, and making it appropriate for rings, pendants, and earrings where mechanical wear may occur. The stone has been heat treated, a stable and widely accepted enhancement used to clarify color and reduce inclusions, and when properly set and maintained the treatment does not compromise structural integrity. Given the shallow rose cut profile and the very slightly included clarity at face up, settings that protect the girdle such as bezels or well-constructed prongs are recommended to minimize risk from lateral impacts. For routine cleaning use warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoid extreme thermal shock and aggressive mechanical treatments, and consult The Natural Sapphire Company for any advanced cleaning or setting advice to preserve the gem long term.
