Product description

This transparent 0.92 carat fancy shape yellowish green sapphire presents a rigorous combination of measured proportions and considered lapidary execution. The stone measures 6.83 x 5.90 x 2.00 mm, its profile governed by a precision step cut that emphasizes planar facets and crisp junctions. The weight to dimension ratio is consistent with a shallow to medium depth step cut, creating a broad table that accentuates color transmission rather than scintillation. Clarity has been evaluated at eye level as very very slightly included, which in this cutting style translates to minimal internal features that do not disrupt the planar facet reflections. The polish is excellent, with facet surfaces rendered to a mirror finish that preserves facet edge definition and optimizes contrast between successive planes. The sapphire has undergone routine heat treatment to stabilize and enhance tone, a standard and stable enhancement for corundum, and the material is sourced from Montana, a provenance noted for a restrained and natural yellowish green palette.

Color is the defining attribute of this sapphire, and the step cut has been chosen to present that color in a deliberate and architectural manner. The hue reads as yellowish green with a light intensity, the tone remaining on the lighter side of the scale which allows for subtle shifts under different lighting. Step cutting creates large, flat facets that act as windows, permitting the viewer to assess hue and saturation directly through the table, while also generating broad flash zones along the facet planes. This stone exhibits modest pleochroism consistent with corundum, with slight variation between the yellow and green components when observed along different crystallographic axes. Color distribution across the table is even, with minimal zoning, which means the perceived color in a jewelry setting will be stable and predictable. Against warmer metals the yellow component will be slightly emphasized, while cooler settings will allow the green aspect to be more apparent, giving designers latitude to influence the visual outcome of the setting.

From a cutting and light performance perspective the hexagonal influenced step geometry of this fancy shape favors controlled light return over scintillating brilliance, creating a refined, architectural aesthetic. The crown and pavilion planes have been calibrated to maintain internal reflection within the limits of corundum refractive index, drawing on the material refractive index range of approximately 1.762 to 1.770 to maximize internal reflection and color saturation. Birefringence for corundum is low, approximately 0.008, so the stone will not produce significant double images, preserving clean facet reflections. The very very slightly included clarity grade, combined with the excellent polish, means that inclusions are typically confined to minor needle or silk features that lie parallel to facet planes and do not compromise structural integrity. The hardness of corundum at 9 on the Mohs scale ensures that this sapphire is durable enough for daily wear with appropriate setting protection, and the step cut with its fewer, larger facets reduces the likelihood of chipping at facet junctions when set in protective mounting styles.

In a jewelry setting this sapphire will stand out through its color clarity and architectural form, offering a distinct visual signature compared with traditional brilliant cuts. The broad table and stepped pavilion produce a calm, glassy depth that reads as concentrated color when viewed face up, and as dynamic planar flashes when the piece is moved. Designers will find this stone particularly effective in solitaire and bezel settings where the clean geometric outline is preserved, and in three stone compositions where the linear planes can be aligned to create a directional flow. For a bolder contrast pairings with warm yellow gold will enrich the yellow component, while white metals such as white gold or platinum will subtly enhance the green aspect. The 2.00 mm depth sets the gem at a low profile relative to tall brilliant cuts, promoting a secure seat in lower settings and reducing snag risk without sacrificing presence. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this Montana origin sapphire as an option for clients who appreciate technical refinement and understated color, and our team can advise on mounting orientations, complementary accent stones, and setting mechanics to ensure the sapphire performs optimally in the intended application.
