This sapphire is a transparent 2.13 carat oval, presenting a bluish green hue and precise dimensions of 8.13 by 6.63 by 4.90 millimeters. The stone is cut in a mixed brilliant style, combining a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown with complementary pavilion cutting to optimize scintillation and return of light. Clarity was evaluated at eye level and described as very very slightly included, indicating eye clean appearance to standard unaided inspection. The color intensity is classified as intense, and the polish has been assessed as excellent. There has been no enhancement applied to this sapphire, which means the color and clarity are wholly natural and inherent to the material as found in the rough.
The proportions of the stone contribute directly to its visual performance. With a length to width ratio close to 1.23 the oval shape appears balanced on the finger while maintaining a distinct face up presence. The depth of 4.90 millimeters corresponds to an approximate depth percentage of 66 percent when measured against the average girdle diameter, a proportion that supports both strong face up color and adequate light return through the mixed brilliant facet design. The mixed brilliant cut is chosen to maximize lively brilliance from the crown facets while using the pavilion geometry to enhance face up color saturation, a particular benefit for sapphires in the bluish green range where depth of tone is essential to perceived quality.
The origin of this sapphire in Madagascar contributes materially to its desirability and value profile. Madagascar has been recognized as an important source of gem quality corundum since deposits were first systematically mined in the late twentieth century, and the island is noted for producing sapphires across a broad spectrum of colors including distinctive bluish green and teal tones. Stones from Madagascar frequently exhibit strong natural saturation combined with good clarity, attributes that are especially prized when the material is unheated and unenhanced. In the current market untreated sapphires with clear provenance command a premium relative to otherwise comparable material that has undergone heat treatment or other enhancements, because the absence of treatment preserves the original state and demonstrates the intrinsic quality of the crystal formation.
For practical use and longevity this sapphire benefits from the inherent durability of corundum, which rates nine on the Mohs scale, making it appropriate for daily wear in settings such as rings, pendants, and earrings when properly secured. The stone sizing and oval outline lend themselves to a variety of settings, from classic solitaire mounts that emphasize the single stone face up color and symmetry, to three stone or halo arrangements where accent diamonds or sapphires can provide contrast and visual emphasis. Because this sapphire is untreated and exhibits excellent polish and eye clean clarity, it is well suited to designs that expose a large portion of the table for viewing. The Natural Sapphire Company can provide detailed documentation and guidance on setting choices, and we can facilitate independent gemological reporting upon request to corroborate the absence of enhancement, the measured weight and dimensions, and other attributes important to long term valuation and care.
