Product description

This is a transparent, 1.75 carat green sapphire, cut in a radiant shape and measuring 7.89 by 6.09 by 4.26 millimeters, presented by The Natural Sapphire Company. The stone carries a clarity grading of very very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, which for practical purposes means it appears essentially eye-clean and displays only minute internal features when examined with magnification. The color intensity is described as intense, a saturated green that benefits from Sri Lankan provenance. Origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, a locality historically prized for producing sapphires with lively tone and attractive saturation. The stone has been heat treated, the standard and stable enhancement for sapphires, applied to improve hue uniformity and clarity without compromising durability. The polish is excellent, indicating finely finished facets and a smooth pavilion and crown, and the combination of excellent polish and a well-proportioned depth of approximately 61 percent supports strong light return for this radiant cut.

When comparing brilliance to more common gemstones, it is important to consider both optical constants and the way color interacts with light. Diamond, with a higher refractive index and greater dispersion, often displays more fire and scintillation in a colorless stone, but sapphire offers a different and equally compelling visual experience. The refractive index of corundum gives sapphires a bright, gemmy luster, and in a richly saturated green such as this 1.75 carat stone, the perception of brilliance arises from intense color combined with precise faceting rather than dispersion alone. The radiant cut used here is a hybrid brilliant-style faceting pattern that maximizes scintillation and light return, producing lively flashes across the table and pavilion while preserving the depth of color. Against green tourmaline and peridot, which can show good brightness but have lower hardness and different color saturation, this green sapphire stands out for its more durable surface and fuller, more stable saturation. Compared with emerald, which is beloved for its color but typically contains more visible, structural inclusions that reduce transparency, the eye-clean nature and high polish of this sapphire yield a cleaner, more brilliant appearance. The result is a gem that reads as both richly colored and lively, offering a different kind of brilliance than a diamond but often more enduring and wearable for everyday jewelry.

Beyond raw sparkle, what makes this green sapphire particularly valuable to an educated buyer is the intersection of origin, color, clarity, cut, and viability for long-term wear. Ceylon sapphires have a strong market history and are recognized for producing gems with a pleasing combination of brightness and hue, and a green sapphire with intense saturation and VVS-level clarity is relatively uncommon. The radiant cut plays a key role in maximizing the gem’s visual appeal: its numerous, well-executed facets and excellent polish enhance both scintillation and color delivery, ensuring that the stone reads lively in varied lighting conditions. The stone’s pleochroic tendencies, common in corundum, can produce subtle shifts between bluish and yellowish green depending on the angle and light source, adding depth and dynamic visual interest that many collectors value. The heat treatment reported is a standard, stable practice in the trade that enhances color and clarity without materially affecting the gem’s long-term integrity, and it is fully disclosed here. With a hardness of nine on the Mohs scale, corundum is exceptionally durable for daily wear, markedly more resistant to abrasion and chipping than tourmaline and many other colored stones, making it a practical choice for rings, pendants, and heirloom pieces.

For buyers seeking a refined, well-documented colored gemstone, this 1.75 carat radiant green sapphire from The Natural Sapphire Company offers a compelling balance of aesthetic and technical attributes. Its eye-clean appearance and intense, well-saturated green make it suitable for prominent settings where both color and brilliance are showcased. The excellent polish and skilled radiant faceting produce lively scintillation and an appealing interplay of tones that distinguishes it from more common green gems, while the Sri Lankan origin contributes provenance that is meaningful in the market. Whether the priority is a versatile everyday jewel, a distinctive engagement center stone, or a collectible gem for a specialist cabinet, this sapphire’s combination of clarity, color intensity, cut quality, and durable nature presents a thoughtful and enduring investment in natural colored gemstones.
