From the mineral rich highlands of Ceylon a single crystal began a long, quiet journey that brings it now to your hand. Deep within Sri Lankan alluvial gravels, this sapphire formed over millions of years as corundum grew in narrow pockets, absorbing trace elements that give it a rare bluish purple hue. Local miners, working with generations of knowledge, recovered the rough with gentle care, choosing pieces of exceptional transparency and color rather than bulk. That rough made its way through careful selection channels to The Natural Sapphire Company, where our gem specialists matched it to a story of craft and provenance. When you look at this stone you are seeing not just color, but the outcome of land, climate, and human hands refined across centuries, a connection to Ceylonese geology and cultural reverence for sapphires that have been cherished by kings and artisans alike.
The heart of the design is a 1.20 carat round shape bluish purple sapphire, measured at 6.27 x 6.27 x 4.00 mm with a mixed brilliant cut that balances table brilliance and pavilion fire. Our master cutter worked to retain weight while opening the pavilion facets to maximize return of light, creating intense color saturation and a lively play of internal light that reads as both deep and vivid to the eye. At a clarity grade of very slightly included when evaluated at eye level the stone is transparent and lively, its inclusions serving as natural fingerprints that prove origin and authenticity rather than detract from beauty. The excellent polish brings a smooth, mirror like surface to every facet, inviting the gem to flash in candlelight and daylight alike. This sapphire carries the quiet dignity of Ceylon origin alongside the technical refinement that turns a treasured rough into a jewel ready for a lifetime of wear.
Encircling the center gem, a delicate split shank embraces the sapphire and scatters light with approximately 0.416 carats of white round natural diamonds, their clarity VS and color grade F to G lending a bright, icy contrast to the warm blue purple of the sapphire. The diamonds are bead set with meticulous attention to spacing and symmetry, their pavé lanes running along the shoulders to amplify the center stone without overwhelming it. The entire composition is realized in platinum 950, chosen for its cool tone, remarkable durability, and affinity for maintaining prong integrity over time, qualities that ensure the setting supports the sapphire securely while keeping its color pure. Every prong is shaped and burnished by hand, the gallery and shoulders finished to satin or high polish as requested, and the final assembly is checked under magnification to guarantee that each facet of the sapphire and diamond is positioned to perform to its fullest. The result is a ring that reads as modern and refined, yet carries the soulful narrative of its Sri Lankan beginnings.
We design each piece with personalization in mind so this ring can become a one of a kind statement for the person who will wear it. You can work with our design team to alter the center stone size or to select a different cut while keeping the same color story, or to trade the pavé diamonds for baguettes, halo accents, or a simpler solitaire setting. Metal options extend beyond platinum 950 to include 18 karat white, yellow, or rose gold when a warmer tone better suits a wearer s style, and finishes can be changed from mirror polish to a soft satin, hammered, or hand engraved texture for a heritage look. Personalized touches include inside band engraving, laser inscribed gemward numbers for traceability, or a bespoke engraving motif inspired by a map, date, or family crest. From initial consultation through CAD renders and optional wax model approval, every stage of customization is guided by our gemologists and jewelers so you can see how changes affect light and balance. Paired wedding bands can be designed to nest perfectly, and our aftercare service offers sizing, cleaning, and prong checks to preserve the story of the ring for generations. If you seek a ring that carries both the provenance of Ceylon and the imprint of your own life, The Natural Sapphire Company will work with you to realize a singular piece that feels made for you alone.
