Long before this ring found its way onto a finger it began as a slow and patient conversation between earth and time in the gemfields of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, where pockets of corundum formed under heat and pressure over millions of years. The journey of this pear shaped bluish green sapphire began as a raw crystal, alive with internal movement and a deep, dark color saturation that hinted at the sea and the forest at once. From there the stone was gently unearthed and entrusted to the hands of skilled cutters who understood that a Ceylon sapphire can be both a color stone and a jewel of light. We at The Natural Sapphire Company chose to preserve the sapphire in its pure state, with no enhancement, so that every shade and nuance of the 2.08 carat gem remains wholly natural. The gem measures 8.71 by 6.21 by 4.84 millimeters, is pear shaped, and has a mixed brilliant cut, with an eye clean clarity when evaluated at eye level and an excellent polish that allows light to enter and return with clarity and life.
The design of the ring is a conversation between the sapphire and a constellation of diamonds, set entirely in warm 14 karat yellow gold to complement the bluish green hues rather than overwhelm them. Flanking the center are tapered baguette shaped natural diamonds totaling approximately 0.20 carats, with clarity grades of VS1 and VS2 and a color grade of E, which provide crisp linear contrast and a subtle architectural feel. A first row of white round diamonds weighing approximately 0.45 carats and a secondary row weighing approximately 0.60 carats, both in VS clarity and F and G color grades, trace the band and frame the central pear in soft sparkling halos. The combination of tapered baguettes and round brilliants was chosen to balance geometry and brilliance. The baguettes emphasize direction and classical refinement, while the round brilliants offer scintillation and a lively surface flash. The mixed arrangement on a double row band elevates the sapphire, cradling it to catch light at multiple angles, while the precise setting and excellent polish of the sapphire allow its natural color and depth to sing without the need for enhancement.
When it comes to light performance this pear shaped mixed brilliant sapphire behaves differently from stones cut purely for sparkle or purely for color, and that is precisely its beauty. The mixed brilliant cut combines faceting elements of both brilliant and step cuts, which means it produces restrained but lively scintillation while preserving color depth. Compared with a full brilliant round cut which maximizes surface sparkle and dispersion, this pear mixed brilliant gives a more sophisticated balance, returning bright flashes when the hand moves, but also holding deeper flashes of color when viewed head on. Against a step cut like an emerald, which emphasizes broad flashes of light and a hall of mirrors effect, the mixed brilliant retains more fire while avoiding the sometimes clinical flatness of large step facets. For a sapphire with dark color saturation from Ceylon, that balance is crucial because too many small facets can scatter color and make the gem appear lighter than its true hue, while too few facets can obscure the scintillation that brings life to the face of the stone. The pear shape itself adds directional movement and a gentle elongation on the finger, and when expertly cut it minimizes the bow tie effect and concentrates light toward the point and the tip in a way that enhances the bluish green depth. The superior polish amplifies these characteristics by allowing clean light transmission and return, while the surrounding tapered baguettes and rounds frame the gem, creating a play between flash and depth that makes the piece wearable, dramatic, and intimate.
This ring is a narrative rendered in metal and mineral, a jewel that traces a path from the soil of Sri Lanka to the attentive workbench and then to the gold that will carry it every day. The Natural Sapphire Company curated each step of that path with an insistence on natural origin, transparency of grading, and craftsmanship that respects the sapphire s natural character. If you are drawn to a gemstone that offers the mystery of deep color and the warmth of thoughtful sparkle, this pear shaped mixed brilliant sapphire ring in 14 karat yellow gold brings both worlds together. It is a ring meant to be lived in, admired, and told about, and we are pleased to guide you through its story and to help you feel how the light moves within this special stone.
