From the moment this blue sapphire first saw the light of day it began a journey that would carry it from the earth of Thailand to a ring crafted by the hands of experienced artisans, a journey that we at The Natural Sapphire Company take great pride in telling. In its original home the stone formed over millennia, caught in the flux of heat and pressure that gives sapphires their depth and character, and it was found by miners who know how to read the land and gather gems with care. The sapphire was then entrusted to cutters and graders who respect the gem for what it is, a natural marvel with its own internal story of growth, trapped crystals, and color. Each stage of this passage left an impression, a mark on the stone that tells of place and time, and when the rough arrived at our workshop the decision about how to bring out its best was guided by experience, by a desire to honor the gem as much as to make something beautiful for the person who will wear it next.
At the heart of this ring is a transparent 2.96 carat pear shaped blue sapphire, precisely measured at 10.31 x 7.81 x 4.73 mm, cut in a mixed brilliant fashion to marry depth of color with lively sparkle. The pear profile carries a quiet elegance and a gentle elongation that flatters the hand, while the mixed brilliant cut brings a combination of large facets and smaller pavilion facets that allow the vivid color saturation to sing, and the excellent polish to reveal every nuance of the stone. The clarity is slightly included when evaluated at eye level, a characteristic that speaks to the gem s natural origin and that can add personality and character to the way light moves through the sapphire. This stone is notably transparent, and when light passes through it the viewer perceives layers of deep blue, flashes of lighter cornflower tones, and a glow that feels alive. The proportions were chosen to respect the sapphire s natural outline, to let the pear shape retain its graceful silhouette while maximizing brilliance and color intensity.
Surrounding the central sapphire is a constellation of white round natural diamonds, selected and placed to complement and elevate the primary gem without overwhelming it. A set of round diamonds weighing approximately 0.315 carats, and a further set weighing approximately 0.45 carats, both possess a clarity graded VS and a color grade of F or G, which ensures a bright, near colorless appearance that frames the blue center with a pure white fire. These diamonds form a halo and continue partway along the band in a delicate pavé, creating a transition from the bold color of the sapphire to the luminous sparkle of the mounting. The contrast between the vivid blue center and the crisp white diamonds is a conversation in light, the diamonds reflecting and amplifying the sapphire s blue while also offering points of scintillation with every movement. Each diamond is set to exacting tolerances, ensuring that the halo hugs the pear silhouette and that the pavé along the shoulders sits flush and consistent, a testament to careful hand setting and strict quality control.
The entire ring is set in platinum 950, a metal chosen for its extraordinary durability and suitability for long term wear, qualities that are essential when a center stone is as treasured as this sapphire. Platinum 950 is dense and resistant to wear, a metal that holds settings securely over generations, and its natural white sheen complements the cool depths of the sapphire while maintaining its color without the need for rhodium plating. For everyday wear this means peace of mind, the prongs and settings crafted in platinum offer superior retention for the sapphire and the accompanying diamonds, and the metal s integrity helps prevent thinning or distortion through years of regular use. Platinum is also hypoallergenic for most wearers, an important consideration for a piece intended to be worn closely and often. At The Natural Sapphire Company we engineer the ring not only for beauty but for longevity, reinforcing stress points and polishing to finished perfection so the piece can be an heirloom that carries its story forward. When you choose this ring you are choosing a gem with a history and a setting built to last, a piece that will grow in meaning with each passing year.
