From the highlands of Ceylon Sri Lanka to the warm glow of a finely finished ring, this pear shaped blue sapphire has a story that begins in the earth and ends on your hand. Rough material was dug from ancient alluvial deposits where generations of miners learned to read the land, looking for the rare alignment of conditions that yield the vivid Ceylon blue that collectors and connoisseurs prize. Our 1.75 carat sapphire measures 8.91 x 6.06 x 4.57 millimeters and has been fashioned into a pear shape with a mixed brilliant cut, a cut chosen to balance scintillation and deep color. At eye level the stone is eye clean, showing no inclusions to the unaided eye, and it displays vivid color saturation and an excellent polish that speaks to the skill of the cutter. We are transparent about treatments, and this stone has been heat treated to bring out its best tone and stability, a widely accepted enhancement when disclosed with integrity, as we always do at The Natural Sapphire Company.
The journey continues at the bench where master goldsmiths translate the gem into a wearable work of art set entirely in 18K white gold. The band is worked into a subtle twisting motif that echoes vines and movement, and along its shoulders small white round natural diamonds catch the light and frame the center stone. These accent diamonds include melee weighing approximately 0.08 carats with clarity grades of VS1 and VS2 and a color grade of F, and additional white round diamonds weighing approximately 0.105 carats with clarity VS and color grades of F and G. Each diamond has been selected for visual harmony with the sapphire so that the whole composition reads as one unified expression, the bright white of the diamonds lifting the pure blue of the center gem. The mixed brilliant cut of the sapphire combines with the round facets of the diamonds to create a lively interplay of fire and brilliance, while the excellent polish on all stones ensures the surface light is returned cleanly to the eye.
Security and longevity were paramount considerations in every step of the design and setting, because a piece of jewelry means more when you can wear it every day with peace of mind. The sapphire is cradled in a robust prong setting that is precision fitted to the gem, with a solid gallery and secure shoulders that lock the pavilion and girdle in place, protecting the stone from lateral knocks and minimizing any movement. The accent diamonds are securely set into the twisted shoulders in settings that protect the girdles and edges while allowing maximum light flow, and the 18K white gold itself is finished and tested to ensure durability and comfort. At The Natural Sapphire Company we pay close attention to how stones are seated and how joins are reinforced, and we offer professional inspection and maintenance advice so this ring can remain as resilient as it is beautiful.
Owning a gem from Ceylon is to carry a piece of history and geology with you, and this ring was made to be both a symbol and a companion. If you are considering this piece for an engagement, an anniversary, or a meaningful gift, know that the provenance of the sapphire and the careful matching of diamonds were considered to create a balanced and timeless look. We welcome questions about origin, treatment, and care, and we can discuss sizing, secure setting options, and any custom requests so that the finished ring meets your expectations for beauty and security. The Natural Sapphire Company stands behind every stone and setting, and we invite you to feel the story in this ring, from Ceylon soil to the certainty of a secure, handcrafted jewel that will be treasured for years to come.
