This ring begins its story far from the city, in the ancient wet zone of Ceylon where rivers wind through emerald hills and miners have chased flashes of blue for generations, a heritage that reaches back to the Ratnapura fields where the island earned its name as the city of gems. Here a crystal formed over millions of years has been coaxed from its host rock, and among those rare finds is the 2.53 carat oval sapphire that anchors this piece. Measured at 9.53 by 6.56 by 4.84 millimeters and fashioned in a mixed brilliant cut, the stone carries an intense saturation that makes its blue deep yet luminous, a color that reads like late afternoon sky over the tea terraces. Its clarity is graded as very very slightly included at eye level, an honest appraisal that speaks to natural character rather than concealment, and the polish is exceptional, permitting the light to pass through and return with a lively, velvety glow. Most important to collectors and connoisseurs is that this sapphire is untreated, a no enhancement gem from Sri Lanka that keeps its geological fingerprints intact and its provenance pure.
From that point of origin the sapphire traveled to our bench where designers at The Natural Sapphire Company considered how to present such a voice of nature with the right frame. The decision was the quiet conversation of a three stone arrangement, where two white pear shaped natural diamonds flank the center, together weighing approximately 0.20 carats, with clarity grading of Very Slightly Included, VS1 and VS2, and a near colorless grade of E. Set in lustrous 18K yellow gold, the diamonds are cut and positioned to act as beacons that contrast and complement, their elongated pear shapes guiding the eye toward the deep blue center and emphasizing the oval silhouette. The setting employs refined prongs and a subtly raised gallery that allow the pavilion of the sapphire to drink light from below while protecting the stone from daily knocks. Every seat, every claw, and every polish of the metal was executed to cradle the gem securely while maximizing its optical performance, the finished ring balancing structural integrity with an airy grace.
That balance evokes echoes of jewelry history, without copying any single artifact, and instead distills the qualities that made certain eras unforgettable. The three stone relationship recalls Georgian and early Victorian sensibilities where a central gem was flanked by complementary lights, a composition that suggested story and continuity. The delicate profile and emphasis on negative space are reminiscent of Edwardian refinement, where light and lace in metal elevated gemstones to appear almost suspended. At the same time the restraint of the band and the reliance on symmetry nod to mid twentieth century classics, those iconic designs from houses such as Cartier that favored clean planes and a focus on the center stone. Unlike heavy historical bezels, this ring uses modern mixed brilliant faceting to impart a livelier scintillation while the yellow gold setting gives a warmth that would have sat comfortably in an heirloom collection. The result is a contemporary heirloom, a design that would not look out of place beside antiques displayed in a museum, and yet feels perfectly suited to everyday wear.
To wear this ring is to carry a condensed landscape, the geological patience of Sri Lanka, the hands of miners and polishers, and the design judgment of our workshop, all signed by The Natural Sapphire Company. We take pride in tracing each gem from mine to ring, and in offering documentation and guidance for care, so that the untreated sapphire and its diamond companions retain their brilliance for generations. If you imagine slipping this oval blue into place, you will find the pear diamonds tilting the light in a way that makes the sapphire look more vivid with every movement, and the warm yellow gold framing that color like sunlight. For those who wish to learn more about certification, custom sizing, or to view this object in person, our team is ready to guide you through the next step, ensuring that this Ceylon sapphire continues its story on your hand, and perhaps becomes part of your family narrative for years to come.
