This ring centers on a transparent 1.72 carat asscher octagon blue sapphire from Ceylon, measuring 6.40 x 6.27 x 4.59 mm, cut in a traditional asscher style that emphasizes step cut facets and a deep, open table. The asscher cut produces crisp, parallel facet planes and defined facet junctions, and in this example the cutter has preserved excellent polish and symmetry, which yields strong, directional facet reflections rather than a dispersed brilliant scintillation. The stone displays vivid color saturation, a rich Ceylon blue with concentrated color in the pavilion and lively flashes across the table as the ring moves, and the dimensions and pavilion depth balance saturation and light return for a saturated, yet transparent, appearance.
