From the deep, layered soils of Ceylon this cushion shaped blue sapphire began as a slow forming treasure, a crystalline heart shaped by heat and pressure for millions of years before human hands found it. Miners in Sri Lanka lifted rough pebbles from ancient river gravels, then our cutters at The Natural Sapphire Company studied the stone to reveal its best potential. The result is a transparent 5.86 carat cushion with dimensions 12.14 by 10.01 by 5.37 mm, a mixed brilliant cut that balances table sparkle and pavilion depth, a clarity graded as very slightly included at eye level, a vivid color intensity, and an excellent polish. The sapphire has been heat treated to enhance its color and clarity, a standard and stable enhancement that gently opens the stone to reveal the saturated, pure blue within. Worn on the hand the gem returns light with a lively, jewel like fire, its cushion silhouette lending a timeless, intimate presence that reads both modern and heirloom.
Compare its hue and tone to sapphires from other famous locations and the differences tell a story. Against Kashmir stones, which are celebrated for a velvety, cornflower blue and a soft diffusion of light, this Ceylon example is brighter and more vivid, with clearer internal sparkle and a slightly crisper blue that reads electric in daylight. Compared to classic Burmese sapphires, known for their deep, royal blue and strong saturation, this Ceylon gem leans a touch lighter and more lively, offering a blue that is less inky and more luminous, which makes it versatile in a variety of settings. Side by side with Australian or Thai material that can appear inky or very dark, this stone keeps a joyful clarity, and compared to many Madagascar sapphires that vary widely, this Ceylon origin stone displays a predictable, pure blue that collectors prize. The color balance here sits between the softness of Kashmir and the depth of Mogok Burma, making it an ideal sapphire for someone who wants presence without heaviness.
This sapphire carries the geography of its origin in its color, the care of cutting in its facets, and the know how of gem treatment in its clarity. At The Natural Sapphire Company we present it as a finished treasure ready for a bespoke setting, a single gemstone that invites a lifelong story.
