From the ancient gravel beds of Ceylon where heat, pressure, and time conspired to color corundum in hues admired by royalty, comes this Orangish Yellow 5.67 carat oval shape blue sapphire, AGTA certified and hand selected by The Natural Sapphire Company. Carved to dimensions of 11.73 x 9.07 x 6.52 mm with a mixed brilliant cut and an excellent polish, the gem began as rough crystal in Sri Lanka, where miners have long followed the veins of alluvial deposits with a blend of traditional skill and respectful stewardship. Heat treatment was applied to stabilize and intensify the inherent color, a common and accepted enhancement that brings forward the vivid color intensity noted in the AGTA report. Evaluated at eye level as very slightly included, this transparent sapphire retains a clean visual appeal that allows light to travel through its surfaces and facets, revealing inner depth and lively flashes of color, a testament to precise cutting and careful finishing by master lapidaries.
When placed among its peers, this Ceylon sapphire reflects light in a way that is distinct from other stones in its category, and the comparison enhances its desirability. The mixed brilliant cut was chosen to maximize scintillation, producing more lively facet flashes than many traditional step cuts commonly used for sapphires, while the excellent polish magnifies the stone's vitreous to slightly adamantine luster. Compared to Kashmir sapphires which are prized for a velvety, diffuse glow, this Ceylon gem returns brighter, more immediate sparkle, and compared to Burmese sapphires which often display dense saturation, this stone reads as more lively and transparent, allowing the eye to dance across its facets. Against alternative blue gems such as spinel or tanzanite, this sapphire offers superior durability and stable color, with less pleochroic shift than tanzanite and a stronger light return than spinel due to sapphire's higher refractive index. The result is a gem that balances brilliance and depth, making it ideal for a setting that showcases both its vivid hue and lively reflection, and a piece that promises to carry the story of Ceylon geology, thoughtful enhancement, and masterful cutting from the earth to the finished jewel with the care and provenance you expect from The Natural Sapphire Company.
