This transparent 3.90 carat, oval shape blue sapphire from Ceylon measures 10.07 x 7.90 x 5.84 mm, and is presented with a mixed brilliant cut, vivid color intensity, and an excellent polish. The clarity is graded very very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, and the stone has been heat treated to enhance color and stability. The mixed brilliant facet arrangement is chosen to balance color saturation and light return, offering a concentrated face up color while preserving lively sparkle from the crown facets. The dimensions and cut proportions produce a pleasing oval outline with consistent depth, allowing the gem to present its vivid Ceylon blue evenly across the table, and The Natural Sapphire Company makes note of the stone s transparency and fine finish when matching it to mountings where both color and brilliance are important.
In comparison to other gemstones in the corundum family and to common blue gemstones in the market, this sapphire exhibits a distinct set of reflective qualities. Corundum is characterized by a strong vitreous luster and modest dispersion, and this Ceylon sapphire returns light as clean, saturated flashes rather than the pronounced fire seen in higher dispersion gems. Against other blue sapphires, Ceylon stones often appear brighter and more lively in reflection compared to cooler, more velvety specimens from other origins, and the mixed brilliant cut amplifies scintillation relative to traditional step or cabochon cuts. When compared to spinel, which can show similar brilliance, this sapphire offers greater color saturation and a firmer luster due to corundum s refractive properties, while tanzanite demonstrates more pleochroism and a different, softer light play. Compared to blue topaz, which can display higher apparent sparkle because of lighter tone and different optical characteristics, this sapphire provides deeper color integrity and more concentrated facet contrast. The heat treatment improves hue uniformity and reduces the visibility of minute inclusions without compromising luster, enabling crisp facet reflections and balanced brilliance that make this stone suitable for settings where sustained color and refined light performance are desired.
