From the ancient weathered soils of Ceylon in Sri Lanka, this sapphire began its journey as a piece of the earth that has been revered for centuries. Mined with care from gem gravels that have produced some of the world’s most luminous blues, the rough material was selected by experienced gem scouts who recognized its transparency and potential. The finished gem is a beautiful transparent 3.70 carat oval shape blue sapphire measuring 11.15 x 8.16 x 5.24 mm, cut to a mixed brilliant faceting to balance scintillation and depth. Evaluated at eye level, it carries a clarity grade of very slightly included, an intense color intensity that reads a vivid Ceylon blue, and an excellent polish that allows light to dance across each facet. This sapphire has been heat treated, a traditional and stable enhancement used to bring out the best of the stone’s color and clarity, and it bears the provenance and care in selection that defines The Natural Sapphire Company.
The story of its creation is one of human hands refining what nature provided. After extraction, the rough sapphire passed through meticulous cutting and polishing, decisions guided by the stone’s natural crystal orientation and internal features. The mixed brilliant cut was selected to maximize face up size and lively sparkle, while preserving weight and integrity. Our master cutters at The Natural Sapphire Company shaped and polished each facet until the surface achieved an excellent polish, revealing an even, intense blue and pleasing brilliance. The oval silhouette is timeless, lending itself to a variety of settings, from a classic solitaire to a halo or three stone design, allowing the gem to be the star while adapting to changing fashions and personal tastes.
This sapphire was made to live through generations. Corundum is one of the hardest natural gemstones, and this 3.70 carat oval, with robust dimensions and excellent polish, is built to withstand daily wear and become a family touchstone. Its Ceylon origin and the documented journey from mine to master cutter add provenance that future heirs will appreciate. With routine care and the stability of heat treatment, the gem will maintain its intense color and brilliance for decades. When set in a well crafted mounting and paired with an accompanying report and provenance from The Natural Sapphire Company, this sapphire becomes more than jewelry, it becomes an heirloom, a story to hand down, and a lasting expression of beauty, memory, and continuity.
