Product description

This pear shaped blue sapphire began its story deep within the ancient metamorphic rock of Ceylon, where intense heat and pressure coaxed corundum and trace elements into a gem that would one day captivate the world. For countless seasons it lay hidden, a patient promise under Sri Lanka soil, gathering the particular balance of iron and titanium that yields sapphire color. When our field team at The Natural Sapphire Company first uncovered this crystal, its transparency and natural hue already set it apart from the usual run of stones. At 2.52 carats, with precise dimensions of 10.85 x 7.04 x 4.26 mm, it is an uncommon size for a pear form that also maintains such even color and notable clarity. Ceylon sapphires are celebrated for a lighter, more velvety blue than the intense cornflower from other locales, and yet it is rare to find a stone from these classic Sri Lankan deposits that combines the graceful size of this specimen with a pure, unenhanced transparency.

The journey from rough to jewel was guided by careful hands and a reverence for the sapphire s natural narrative. Our master cutter shaped it into a pear with a mixed brilliant cut to maximize both brilliance and color distribution, preserving the gem s inherent light return while introducing a delicate pattern of facets that play across the table and pavilion. Under close inspection the stone grades as eye clean when evaluated at eye level, a quality that becomes both rare and precious in sapphires of this scale. Its medium color intensity is a subtle, living blue that translates beautifully in daylight and lamplight, while the excellent polish allows every facet to sing. Importantly this sapphire carries no enhancement, an increasingly uncommon truth in the market today where heat treatment is often used to improve tone and clarity. The absence of enhancement preserves the gem s original chemistry and story, a purity that collectors and connoisseurs prize for its honesty.

When set, this pear shaped blue sapphire will become a wearable chapter of its own history, a focal point that balances the classical and the contemporary. Its elongated silhouette is ideal for solitaire rings, drop pendants, and bespoke engagement settings where the stone s proportion and lightness can be shown to best effect, and its dimensions provide enough presence to be noticed while remaining elegant on the hand or at the throat. Because of its size, color and untreated origin, it stands apart from the more common small or heavily treated sapphires, offering scarcity in both mass and hue. As a Ceylon gem with transparent clarity and no enhancement, it carries cultural resonance too, echoing the long history of Sri Lankan stones being sought by royals and gem lovers across continents. At The Natural Sapphire Company we document each sapphire s provenance and characteristics so that when you choose this gem you are not only acquiring a beautiful stone, you are adopting a provenance, a story of place, of geology, of human craftsmanship. If you are drawn to an heirloom quality sapphire that is both rare and honest, this 2.52 carat pear shape blue sapphire awaits its next chapter with you.
