From the riverbeds and alluvial deposits of Madagascar this 1.63 carat oval bluish green sapphire began life as a fragment of crystallized corundum, slowly gathering color and clarity over geological time. Our team at The Natural Sapphire Company traced and selected this stone for its rare, intense color intensity, its transparent body, and its no enhancement status, choosing a mixed brilliant cut to coax the most lively performance from the rough. Gently faceted into dimensions of 7.95 by 6.29 by 3.97 millimeters, and given an excellent polish, the gem emerged with an energetic balance of bright flashes and deep, velvety fields of color. Examined at eye level it is very slightly included, a mark of authenticity that does not interrupt the visual drama, instead adding character and a subtle map of the stone story. The cutter worked to respect the natural color zoning and pleochroic tendencies of the sapphire, orienting facets so that the stone will reveal its teal shifts as it moves, a living color that feels both oceanic and forest like.
In comparison to other gemstones in the sapphire family, this mixed brilliant oval offers a distinctive reflective personality. Against traditional deep blue sapphires with classic step or mixed cuts, this bluish green sapphire returns more scintillation from the crown facets while still offering the depth associated with saturated sapphires, so it reads as both lively and substantial in hand. Compared with green sapphires from other localities it carries a brighter, more intense presence because of its combination of high transparency and excellent polish, while remaining more durable and refractive than similar sized tourmalines or aquamarines, which tend to show softer brilliance and less crisp facet sparkle. Unlike diamonds where fire dominates, sapphire brilliance is driven by refractive index and facet design, and this stone shows strong internal reflections and vivid color flashes without overwhelming dispersion. Finished and ready for setting, this sapphire is particularly suited to ring designs that let light enter the pavilion and interact with the mixed brilliant faceting, creating a dynamic play of teal and blue green that will be unmistakable on the finger, an heirloom quality gem offered with the provenance and care you expect from The Natural Sapphire Company.
