From the mineral-rich soils of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, this sapphire began its journey as a grain of crystallized corundum, slowly colored by trace elements and weathered free into the alluvial gravels that have made Sri Lanka famous for centuries. Hand selected by our gem specialists at The Natural Sapphire Company for its transparent body and intense color intensity, the stone was then entrusted to a master cutter who translated nature into art. The result is a 1.58 carat oval, measuring 7.65 by 5.84 by 4.44 millimeters, fashioned in a mixed brilliant cut that balances fire and brilliance with the oval silhouette. Evaluated at eye level as very very slightly included, and finished with an excellent polish, this no enhancement sapphire carries its natural story intact, offering a clear, lively window into the earth that formed it.
Seen next to sapphires from other legendary locales, its hue and tone tell a distinct Ceylon story. Where Kashmir sapphires are often remembered for a velvety, cornflower blue with a softer, plush tone, this Sri Lankan gem reads brighter and more effervescent, with a lively medium to intense blue that catches the light and returns it with spark and clarity. Compared with classic Burmese sapphires that tend toward a deeper, royal saturation, this stone feels airier and more open, its transparency allowing facets to flicker rather than sitting clouded in a dense bodycolor. Malagasy stones can show similar vivacity, yet they often trend either toward cooler steely blues or toward strong saturation, while Australian sapphires frequently carry darker, inky tones with greenish overtones. This Ceylon sapphire occupies a sweet center ground, intense without being heavy, crystalline without being thin, making it particularly radiant in a solitaire or halo setting where the mixed brilliant cut can play across the crown and pavilion to produce lively scintillation. Presented by The Natural Sapphire Company, this sapphire is a narrative gem, one whose origin, natural color, and careful cutting invite you to wear a piece of Ceylonese earth, finished by human hands to reveal the best of what nature created.
