Product description

This is a beautiful transparent 1.52 carat cushion shape blue sapphire, offered by The Natural Sapphire Company, that presents an appealing combination of size, shape, and optical quality. The stone measures 6.78 x 6.60 x 3.46 mm, making it large enough to serve as a striking center stone while still retaining the versatility to be incorporated into a wide range of custom designs. The mixed brilliant cut combines step cut elements with brilliant facets to balance depth of color and scintillation, and the excellent polish enhances its surface luster. The clarity grade is very very slightly included evaluated at eye level, and the color shows vivid intensity, delivering a rich blue that reads strongly both in daylight and under artificial lighting. Enhancement has been disclosed as heat treated, and the documented origin is Ceylon Sri Lanka, a source long respected for producing sapphires with lively, saturated blues.

For an educated buyer the clarity grade is a critical factor in assessing both beauty and value. Very very slightly included evaluated at eye level indicates that when the stone is examined with the unaided eye in typical viewing conditions the inclusions are minimal and do not materially affect the visual performance. Under magnification the stone will reveal small needle like or pinpoint inclusions typical of natural sapphires, but these are not distracting and in many cases help to confirm natural origin and singleness of the crystal. Clarity plays directly into light transmission and perceived brightness. In this example the transparency and internal condition allow excellent light return from the mixed brilliant facets, so the vivid color is presented with strong saturation while maintaining lively scintillation. For collectors and custom jewelers who prefer stones that combine presence with eye clean appearance the grade here is an excellent match.

The mixed brilliant cut and the cushion outline are especially important when considering custom settings. The cushion shape offers soft rounded corners and a near square to slightly rectangular footprint that suits both classic and contemporary mountings. At 6.78 by 6.60 mm the stone is essentially near square, which makes center settings predictable in terms of head design and prong placement, and the 3.46 mm depth produces comfortable proportions that balance table size and pavilion depth for pleasing light performance. The mixed brilliant facet arrangement enhances fire and scintillation across different lighting environments, so the gem will flash and shimmer while retaining deep blue saturation at the core. Excellent polish ensures that facet junctions are smooth and reflective, which increases the perceived sharpness of the facet pattern and reduces light leakage. Together these characteristics mean the sapphire will perform well in a solitaire prong setting, a bezel, a halo design with accent diamonds, or a three stone composition, and it will sit securely with clean optical transitions to surrounding stones and metal.

Origin and treatment matter to discerning buyers, and this sapphire carries the provenance of Ceylon Sri Lanka, a classic source associated with attractive cornflower through vivid blue tones. Ceylon origin is often sought for its typically lighter to medium dark blues that retain lively saturation, and the vivid intensity noted here places this gem in a high tier for color desirability without drifting into very dark tones that can reduce brilliance. Heat treatment is the most common and widely accepted enhancement in the trade for sapphires, it is stable and permanent, and when disclosed it allows buyers to evaluate the stone on its true comparative merits. The combination of natural origin from Ceylon, transparent crystal structure, vivid color intensity, and judicious heat enhancement results in a stone that is both visually compelling and commercially sound. For buyers who prioritize traceable origin and conventional enhancement practices this sapphire represents a transparent and responsible offering.

In terms of suitability for custom jewelry this sapphire is particularly well suited as a center stone because of its weight and dimensions. At 1.52 carat the gem has enough presence to serve as the focal point of a ring, pendant, or small brooch, while the cushion shape makes design planning straightforward for setting fabricators. The near square dimensions lend themselves to symmetric designs and simplified prong placement, and the mixed brilliant cutting provides broad appeal to clients seeking both vintage character and modern brilliance. The hardness and toughness of sapphire make it appropriate for everyday wear when set properly, and options such as low bezel walls for a protective profile or prong settings that show maximum color are both feasible. The Natural Sapphire Company can work with you to select complementary accent stones and metal choices that enhance the vivid blue, for example pairing the sapphire with high quality white diamonds for contrast, or warm yellow gold for a classic tone on tone effect. If you are planning a bespoke piece this sapphire is an excellent candidate given its balance of size, shape, eye level clarity, cut quality, and Sri Lankan origin, and our team can provide additional imagery, measurements, and design consultation to ensure the final piece meets both aesthetic and technical expectations.
