1.27 Ct. Blue Sapphire from Ceylon (Sri Lanka)

From the hill sides of Ceylon in Sri Lanka this sapphire began its life deep within metamorphic rock, a sliver of blue patiently shaped by time and pressure, then discovered by skilled miners who know where the island most often hides its finest crystals. Hand selected for transparency and color, the rough arrived at our cutting studio where the story continued under the steady hands of an experienced lapidary. Carefully planned proportions preserved weight while maximizing light return, producing a round shape weighing 1.27 carat and measuring 6.38 by 6.37 by 4.10 mm. The lapidary chose a mixed brilliant cut to fuse the classic sparkle of a brilliant with the color maximizing pavilion of a gem cut that respects the sapphire family. Evaluated at eye level the clarity reads very very slightly included, the color presents as medium intensity, the polish is excellent, and the stone bears no enhancement, a naturally received beauty that speaks to rarity and authenticity.
