This 1.25 carat asscher octagon shape bluish green sapphire presents precise proportions and classical step cut geometry, dimensions of 6.00 by 5.98 by 3.24 millimeters, and a depth that measures approximately fifty four percent of the average diameter, yielding balanced crown and pavilion relationships that optimize face up color and internal light return. The asscher cut employs concentric square step facets with truncated corners, producing a hall of mirrors effect and controlled flashes rather than scintillation, making facet junctions and symmetry paramount. The color is a clearly defined bluish green with intense color intensity, exhibiting strong saturation and moderate tone that reads as lively in direct light and richly deep in subdued environments. Clarity is graded as eye clean as evaluated at eye level, permitting unobstructed appreciation of the step facet architecture, and the finish is an excellent polish with crisp facet planes and mirror like facet junctions. Origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, and the stone is natural with no enhancement, no heat or diffusion, preserving original pleochroic behavior and natural growth features that contribute to its character.
The journey of this sapphire from mine to market reflects deliberate sourcing and meticulous craftsmanship by The Natural Sapphire Company, beginning in the alluvial gravels and primary workings near Ratnapura in Sri Lanka where experienced miners hand recover material and perform an initial sort by color and clarity. Selected rough with strong natural color and homogeneous zoning moved to our preforming bench where cutters mapped color distribution and internal features, choosing an asscher profile to maximize retained weight while aligning the step facets to emphasize the bluish green hue. Master lapidaries executed the precise faceting sequence on indexed laps, maintaining strict symmetry tolerances and optimizing crown height and table proportions to achieve the measured depth and the controlled light pattern characteristic of fine asscher cutting. Final inspection and grading by in house gemologists confirmed the eye clean clarity, intense color intensity, and excellent polish, and the gem carries a provenance record as natural Sri Lankan material with no enhancement. Offered ready for bespoke setting or museum grade mounting, this sapphire is suited to designs that celebrate clean lines and color depth, and it exemplifies the rigorous standards and transparent sourcing that define The Natural Sapphire Company.
