From the highlands of Madagascar where geological forces have been shaping earth for millions of years this 1.06 carat pear shape bluish green sapphire began its story deep within metamorphic rock. Miners working with close knowledge of the land found a transparent crystal that would travel from river gravels to careful sorting and then on to the skilled hands at The Natural Sapphire Company. Measuring 7.74 x 5.09 x 3.80 mm this gem was selected for its natural transparency and its medium intense color intensity. It was cut into a graceful pear silhouette with a mixed brilliant cut, evaluated as very slightly included at eye level, with an excellent polish. No enhancement has been applied, so what you see is the sapphire as nature formed it, a rare unaltered example of Madagascar origin ready to become an heirloom piece.
The sapphire’s brilliance is more than skin deep, it is a direct expression of corundum’s internal architecture. Aluminum oxide arranged in a tight crystalline lattice gives sapphires a high refractive index and notable dispersion that separates and returns light as vivid flashes, while pleochroism allows bluish green tones to shift and animate when the stone moves. The mixed brilliant cut is designed to exploit these optical properties, combining the depth and contrast of step facets with the scintillation and fire of brilliant facets. The proportions of crown and pavilion direct light back through the table, creating a balance of broad internal brilliance and lively pinpoint scintillation, and the excellent polish allows every facet junction to act as a mirror. Because this stone is transparent and very slightly included at eye level the light can travel and reflect internally with minimal interruption, giving a clarity of flash that is uncommon in stones of this hue. Held to the standards of The Natural Sapphire Company this unenhanced Madagascar sapphire offers a story of earth, craft, and light, a gem whose structure and cut come together to produce a sparkle that feels both natural and consciously refined.
