This transparent Cornflower blue sapphire weighs 1.06 carat, and presents an oval shape with precise dimensions of 6.58 x 4.92 x 3.78 mm, a mixed brilliant cut, and an excellent polish. The stone carries an Other certification, originates from Ceylon Sri Lanka, and shows vivid color intensity with a clarity grade of slightly included when evaluated at eye level. There has been no enhancement to this gem, ensuring that the hue and transparency are entirely natural. The mixed brilliant cutting style has been chosen to balance color saturation and light performance, retaining depth in the pavilion while allowing table and crown facets to return lively scintillation, an outcome that is particularly effective with a vivid Cornflower tone. The combination of weight, dimensions, and cut make this sapphire well suited to a variety of fine jewelry applications, and The Natural Sapphire Company documents its origin and condition to support informed selection.
This gemstone formed through geological processes that unfolded over many millions of years, beginning with the transformation of aluminum rich rocks under sustained pressure and temperature during regional metamorphism in Sri Lanka. Corundum, the mineral species of sapphire, crystallized as aluminum oxide within metamorphosed gneiss and marble, where trace amounts of chromium and a subtle balance of iron and titanium imparted the Cornflower blue color, resulting in vivid saturation rather than a heavily gray or green bias. Over geologic time, tectonic uplift and erosion liberated crystals from their host matrix, followed by transport and concentration in ancient alluvial deposits where streams and weathering rounded and sorted gem material. Slow crystallization and stable conditions allowed the formation of clean, transparent crystals that preserved internal growth patterns and minor inclusions consistent with a slightly included clarity grade evaluated at eye level. When recovered, this 1.06 carat oval was assessed, cut, and polished to maximize its natural attributes, with care taken to maintain the unenhanced state and to present the Cornflower color as found in nature. The Natural Sapphire Company provides this information to ensure clarity about provenance, characteristics, and the natural history embodied in the stone.
