From the ancient alluvial gravels of Ceylon, Sri Lanka, this sapphire began its life slowly forming under heat and pressure, gathering traces of iron and titanium that give it a vivid blue color intensity. Miners working river bends and old terraces first discovered the rough crystal, and it was then sent to a master cutter who revealed its potential. At 0.77 carat and measuring 6.60 by 4.41 by 3.17 mm, the stone was fashioned into an elegant oval with a mixed brilliant cut, combining a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown with carefully arranged step facets on the pavilion. The result is a transparent gem with excellent polish, a clarity graded slightly included at eye level that speaks to its natural origin, and best of all a never enhanced state, allowing the authentic character of a Ceylon sapphire to shine. At The Natural Sapphire Company we honor that journey, selecting and presenting gems that carry both geological history and skilled craftsmanship in equal measure.
Viewed in different light this sapphire offers a changing, intimate performance. In bright daylight and direct sunlight the vivid blue becomes saturated and velvety, the mixed brilliant cut throwing back lively flashes of electric blue and deep royal tones, while small internal inclusions remain unobtrusive and add a natural fingerprint when seen closely. Under warm incandescent or candlelight the stone takes on a softer, more luminous blue with a gentle glow from within, the facets reflecting warm highlights and making the gem feel almost alive. Under cool LED or fluorescent lighting the sapphire shows crisp facet definition and more contrast between the brilliant crown and the pavilion facets, enhancing scintillation and making it ideal for modern jewelry settings. Diffused indoor light will emphasize the stone s transparency and depth, while movement will reveal the sapphire s pleochroic tendencies, shifting from a cornflower blue to a deeper indigo as it turns. When set on the finger the 6.60 by 4.41 mm oval reads as a delicate but unmistakable presence, perfect for a refined solitaire or as the centerpiece of a custom design. If you would like to experience this natural, untreated Ceylon sapphire in person or explore setting options with The Natural Sapphire Company, we would be pleased to guide you through its story and the best ways to showcase its light.
