Product description

From the moment a rainstorm loosened the ancient gravel beds of Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, this greenish blue sapphire began a journey that connects earth and hand. In the river valleys near Ratnapura, miners have followed seams of light and color for generations, using skills passed down from parent to child, and ears tuned to the subtle sound of a stone striking a pan. That is where this gem first showed itself, a glint of green and blue trapped in a rough crystal, catching sunlight like a memory. The land that gave it life is steeped in gem lore, with local communities treating finds as gifts and milestones. The greenish blue tone of this stone speaks to the tropical waters and monsoon skies of its birthplace, a color that carries both the calm of a lagoon and the depth of the ocean. As you imagine the hand that first lifted it from the sediment, you can feel the long lineage of craft and care behind it, a story that begins in ancient geology and ends in a jewel designed to be worn and admired.

Once extracted, the rough moved into the workrooms where its potential was read by experienced cutters, men and women who know how light travels through crystal. They examined the form, chose an orientation, and set to work to reveal its beauty. The cutter balanced the desire for carat retention with the need for optical performance, and the result is an elegant oval shape weighing 0.73 carat. The proportions are finely judged, with dimensions of 6.03 by 4.94 by 2.89 mm that give it presence without overpowering a delicate design. Its mixed brilliant cut harmonizes pavillion faceting with a brilliant crown, creating scintillation that plays across its medium intense color intensity. The clarity was evaluated at eye level as very, very slightly included, a mark of natural origin that only deepens its character. Meticulous polishing brought an excellent finish, each facet crisp, each plane reflecting light with clarity and cheer. Before reaching this sublime state, the gem underwent a conventional heat treated enhancement, a respectful and stable process that deepened hue and clarity while preserving the gem’s natural identity.

At The Natural Sapphire Company we select sapphires not just by technical criteria, but for the stories they tell and the emotions they can evoke. This stone traveled through careful hands from mine, to sorters, to cutters, to our gem lab, where we measured and recorded every detail that gives you confidence in its provenance. The mixed brilliant cut maximizes fire and sparkle, while the oval silhouette offers timeless versatility. Its 0.73 carat weight sits comfortably between dainty charm and noticeable presence, making it an ideal center for a ring that is both elegant and wearable, or a pendant that draws the eye. The greenish blue tone with medium intense saturation allows the gem to pair beautifully with warm yellow metals or crisp white settings, and the very, very slightly included clarity ensures that the stone is unmistakably natural, with inclusions that tell of formation deep beneath the earth, invisible to the casual glance yet present to make each stone unique. The excellent polish means it will catch and hold light from every angle, offering a lively performance even in subdued light.

Owning this sapphire means carrying a small piece of Sri Lanka’s geological narrative and human craftsmanship with you, a jewel that began in riverstone and now waits to become part of your life. Imagine it set in a simple gold bezel to celebrate its color, or mounted in a halo to amplify its sparkle, each option a different chapter in its story. We at The Natural Sapphire Company are committed to clear communication and lasting service, so you will receive full details on weight, measurements, cut, clarity, color intensity, and the fact that the stone has been heat treated, along with guidance on care and customization. This gem invites conversation, from its origin in Ceylon, to the hands that shaped it, to the moment you choose to make it yours. If you are drawn to stones with history and heart, this greenish blue oval is ready to become the next chapter in your story, carrying the light of its birthplace into the everyday.
