From the rifled alluvial beds of Ceylon Sri Lanka, where monsoon rains reveal centuries old sapphire seams, this 3.60 carat oval blue sapphire began its journey as a rough stone in the earth, shaped by time and geology into a gem of rare depth, clarity and character. Cradled and selected by experienced miners and trusted partners of The Natural Sapphire Company, the stone was brought to our cutters who chose a mixed brilliant cut to balance the gem’s intense blue color intensity with lively internal scintillation, the proportions measuring 10.17 x 7.99 x 5.08 mm and finished to an excellent polish. Evaluated at eye level as very slightly included, this heat treated sapphire retains the natural hallmarks of Ceylon origin while offering a transparent and vivid presence that is emphasized by two white oval shaped brilliant cut natural diamonds weighing a total of 0.60 carats, each graded VS1 clarity and F color, all set within a refined 18K white gold ring. The design tells a story of place and craft, of Sri Lankan mountains and skilled hands, arriving at a piece that feels both timeless and personal.
In practical terms the ring’s durability stands up strongly when compared to similar three stone designs on the market, the sapphire’s nine on the Mohs hardness scale making it markedly more resistant to everyday scratching than many colored gems such as emerald or opal, while the flanking diamonds provide both aesthetic balance and structural shielding to the sapphire’s shoulders. Set in 18K white gold, the mounting offers a confident combination of beauty and resilience, less hard than platinum or 14K alloys but more lustrous and easier to refine, and the secure prong settings here give excellent protection while allowing light to animate the stones. Compared with bezel or low profile settings the prong set oval allows greater light return but requires periodic inspection to ensure prong integrity, a small maintenance trade off for superior brilliance. At The Natural Sapphire Company we recommend routine professional checks every six to twelve months and gentle home cleaning to preserve the polish and secure settings, advice that helps this heirloom quality ring outlast many comparable pieces on the market, keeping the story of its origin and craftsmanship alive for generations.
