These two star sapphires began their journey deep beneath the ancient hills of Burma Myanmar, where heat and pressure coaxed aluminum and trace elements into crystalline order over eons, and where microscopic rutile needles aligned to weave the six ray asterism that gives these gems their signature star. Found in alluvial deposits worked by generations of miners, their rough forms carried the memory of riverbeds and monsoon seasons, and the stone that would become a 3.15 carat oval and its companion at 2.85 carats already held a story of time and place. At The Natural Sapphire Company we honor that origin by carefully documenting provenance, and by valuing the unenhanced truth of each gem, so these sapphires are offered with no enhancement, their medium blue color intensity preserved as it was revealed from the mine. The very slightly included clarity grade evaluated at eye level speaks to authenticity, and to the natural character that creates the star, a phenomenon as much geological as it is visual.
The transformation from rough to cabochon brought out both form and light, each stone shaped into an oval cabochon to maximize the six ray star that crosses their gently domed surfaces, the first measuring 7.47 by 7.01 by 5.47 millimeters, the second measuring 7.73 by 7.15 by 5.06 millimeters. Expert cutters worked patiently to orient the needles so the star would float at the surface, and a final excellent polish allows the star to glide and sharpen as the gems move under direct light, a living dance of silk and fire. These sapphires are tactile and translucent, their soft glow suited to a pair of earrings or a matched set that honors symmetry and the subtle differences that make each stone unique. When you hold them you feel the lineage of place and craft, the Burmese earth and the cutter s hand, and the pledge from The Natural Sapphire Company that what you receive is natural, honest, and ready to be worn as a piece of living history.
