From the volcanic soils and riverbeds of Ceylon Sri Lanka these two sapphires began their long journey, buried for millennia and then carefully recovered by hands that know the land. In the cool light of the sorting table their vivid blue color announced itself, a pure and appealing tone that spoke of ocean and sky. At The Natural Sapphire Company we watched each stone as it moved from raw crystal to polished gem, choosing cuts that would reveal brilliance while preserving weight and color. A skilled cutter fashioned each into a round mixed brilliant cut, balancing the pavilion facets and crown faces to maximize sparkle and depth. The result is a pair of transparent blue sapphires that carry the gentle history of their origin, and the quiet expertise of Sri Lankan mining traditions. Enhancement by heat treatment was applied to stabilize and enhance the natural color, a customary and permanent practice that brings forward the vivid intensity without compromising durability. Each stone has an excellent polish that allows light to dance across the table and facets, and a clarity grade of very slightly included as evaluated at eye level, which gives character without distracting from the gem s radiance.
These sapphires weigh 0.57 carats and 0.66 carats respectively, and their dimensions are 5.11 by 5.12 by 2.58 millimeters and 5.13 by 5.20 by 2.87 millimeters, dimensions that read as nearly sister stones ready to become a matched pair. For a custom pair of earrings they are ideal, lending themselves to classic studs where the mixed brilliant cut will catch light on every turn, to delicate halo settings that amplify their vivid color, or to elegant drop designs that let them sway and flash. Their vivid color intensity and excellent polish will pair beautifully with warm yellow gold for a traditional look, with white gold or platinum for a modern refined feel, or with a custom setting that features small accent stones to enhance brilliance. At The Natural Sapphire Company our bench jewelers can craft settings that respect the stones unique stories while ensuring secure and wearable design. Choose these Ceylon sapphires to create earrings that are not only beautiful, but rooted in place and process, each stone a small story worn close to the ear.
