Product description

This pair of pear shape blue sapphires presents a precisely considered combination of proportions and optical performance, ideal for a matched earring set. Individually the stones weigh 0.44 carats and 0.47 carats respectively, and measure 5.99 x 3.97 x 2.21 millimeters and 5.96 x 4.13 x 2.44 millimeters, which yields length to width ratios of approximately 1.51 and 1.44. The mixed brilliant faceting scheme employs a brilliant crown to maximize table and star facet scintillation, paired with a modified pavilion geometry to concentrate return of blue saturation into the face up view. The resulting depth percentages are approximately 44.4 percent for the 0.44 carat stone and 48.4 percent for the 0.47 carat stone, values that sit well within the accepted range for pear cut sapphires and which explain the slight variance in face up spread and light return between the two stones. Clarity is graded as very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, with internal features that are minimal and oriented such that they do not interrupt the dominant blue transmission, and the excellent polish produces crisp facet junctions and clean window free reflections.

Color characteristics are a principal strength of this pair, described as vivid color intensity with saturated medium deep blue that remains even across each pavilion and crown. The heat enhancement is a standardized, stable treatment that further opens the color and improves clarity, without altering the natural corundum structure, and the stones are of Madagascar origin, a locale known for producing sapphires with well saturated blues and attractive pleochroic behavior. When compared to similar non matching gemstones, the technical differences become evident. Non matching stones often show larger disparities in tone, saturation, or proportion which translate into uneven contrast and inconsistent scintillation in paired settings, for example a sapphire with a shallower pavilion or a larger table will display more windowing and less color saturation than these pieces, and a companion stone with a more pronounced elongated ratio will concentrate light differently causing one earring to appear brighter or paler under identical lighting. Inclusions also play a role in non matched sets, where internal features in one stone can scatter light and reduce apparent depth, whereas this pair maintains comparable internal characteristics and transparency, preserving a harmonious visual balance.

From a setting and design perspective these two sapphires offer excellent predictability for precision mounting, with tight tolerances in size and weight that facilitate symmetrical prong positioning or bezel encasement with minimal reworking. The small difference in length to width ratio and the modest variation in depth percent are technical considerations to account for when orienting the pears, with the slightly deeper stone producing marginally higher face up intensity when set with the point oriented down, and the slightly shallower stone presenting a touch more spread. For maximum color saturation and to harmonize appearance, a closed back or low profile basket that reduces light leakage is recommended, along with a metal selection that complements the blue rather than competing with it, for example platinum or 18 karat white gold for contrast reduction, or 18 karat yellow gold to warm the visual field when a richer look is desired. These gems are an especially strong option when compared to non matched sapphires that require significant recutting or compensation to achieve parity, because the pair as presented requires only minor calibration to achieve optimum symmetry. The Natural Sapphire Company stands behind the documented origin, the disclosed heat enhancement, and the precise measurements and grading presented here, and we can provide further technical images and facet diagrams on request to assist in final design decisions and to illustrate the comparative performance against alternate, non matching stones.
