Product description

Long before this yellow sapphire found its way into the careful hands of our cutters, it began its journey deep within the aged rock of Ceylon, where heat and time conspired to form corundum crystals of remarkable depth and clarity. Miners working in the emerald and sapphire fields of Sri Lanka have long learned to read the land, following veins and alluvial deposits where sunlight and rain have, over centuries, washed and revealed pockets of treasure. The rough stone that later became this gem likely traveled a small riverbed, tumbling and smoothing as it was carried toward the surface, preserving a core of vivid color. When it emerged into the light, our team recognized more than a pretty yellow. We recognized potential, a piece of geology that combined clarity with hue in proportions uncommon for yellow sapphire of this weight. At The Natural Sapphire Company we honor the stone that the earth creates, and we begin our work by listening to its natural story, documenting origin, and preparing the rough with respect for its history and for the hands that recovered it.

The cutting phase transforms a rough crystal into a gem that speaks to both science and soul, and this sapphire was planned carefully to reveal its best attributes. Skilled cutters evaluated the rough to balance retention of weight with the ideal proportions for color and brilliance, selecting an emerald cut in a faceted style to highlight the gem’s transparent body and internal clean appearance. The final dimensions measure 6.92 by 5.62 by 4.85 millimeters, and the polished result weighs 1.95 carats, a weight that places it near a threshold where rarity and presence begin to accelerate. The emerald cut produces linear facets and large step planes that allow the vivid yellow color to read consistently across the table, while a meticulous polish elevates the surface to an excellent finish that enhances light return. The clarity grade is eye clean as evaluated at eye level, so the stone reads pure and bright to the viewer without the need for magnification. The combination of faceting, proportions, and polish were chosen to make the most of the gem’s natural attributes, and to honor the decisions the earth already made when it formed the crystal.

Weight is the single characteristic that most directly influences how a sapphire is perceived, both visually and in terms of market value, and the 1.95 carat weight of this yellow sapphire is central to its story of rarity. In the world of colored gemstones each incremental increase in carat weight often represents a disproportionate increase in rarity, because larger crystals that are also clean and strongly colored are exponentially less common. A sub two carat sapphire with vivid color and eye clean clarity is therefore a notable find, and it carries the visual presence to serve as the focal point in a fine jewelry setting without overwhelming balance or requiring exceptionally large metalwork. When cutters seek to preserve weight, they make difficult choices about facet arrangement, pavilion depth, and table size, all to maintain color saturation while avoiding visible inclusions. The result here is a gem that achieves an elegant compromise, retaining 1.95 carats of measured mass while presenting precise proportions of 6.92 by 5.62 by 4.85 millimeters that convey both substance and wearable size. For collectors and designers alike, this means access to a stone that commands attention because of its scale, and because weight so often signals geological fortune and market scarcity.

Color and clarity live together in this sapphire in a way that explains why weight matters for beauty as much as for value. The vivid color intensity offers a saturated yet pure yellow that reads like sunlight contained within crystal, warm and bright without veering into brown or green tones that can dull the visual appeal. The emerald cut, with its stepped facets and broad table, crystallizes the color so that it reads evenly across the surface, giving the wearer a steady plane of golden light rather than fleeting flashes. Transparency is high, and the eye clean clarity means that the stone presents itself as a clean window into color, a quality that becomes more impactful as carat weight grows because larger surfaces show color more uniformly. Heat treatment has been applied to enhance and stabilize the hue, a widely accepted and long practiced enhancement for sapphires that improves clarity and color while respecting the stone’s natural character. With an excellent polish the light dances in deliberate pathways, and the overall result is a gem that feels both vivid and refined, suited for an engagement ring, a striking pendant, or a bespoke design where the 1.95 carat presence will anchor the piece.

At The Natural Sapphire Company we stand behind every step of this yellow sapphire’s journey from Ceylon to the finished gem, and we present it with full disclosure and attention to provenance. We document origin as Sri Lanka, and we note the heat treatment enhancement that was performed to bring forward the stone’s best color and clarity, practices that are part of a transparent trade that respects both science and beauty. The 1.95 carat weight confers a balance of rarity and versatility, making this sapphire a meaningful choice for collectors who value geological story and for clients seeking a center stone that is impressive without being impractical. Our gem specialists are available to advise on settings that will complement the emerald cut proportions and the vivid yellow tone, whether the design calls for warm metals to echo the golden hue or for contrasting stones to create dynamic interplay. If you would like to explore this sapphire in person, or to learn more about how its weight and measured dimensions translate into wearability and value, we are ready to guide you through the next steps with the craftsmanship and care that the stone deserves.
