Product description

This specimen is a transparent, round shape yellow sapphire weighing 1.11 carats, with measured dimensions of 6.63 by 6.55 by 3.34 millimeters, presented by The Natural Sapphire Company. The gem exhibits a mixed brilliant cut executed to exacting standards, combining a brilliant style crown with a complementary mixed style pavilion to optimize both scintillation and light return. Color is graded as light in intensity, expressing a delicate lemon to soft canary yellow that is characteristic of fine Ceylon material. Clarity is described as very very slightly included when evaluated at eye level, indicating that inclusions are minimal and do not interfere with the passage of light or the visual purity through standard viewing. The piece has been heat treated, a stable and widely accepted enhancement for corundum, applied to enhance hue uniformity and to refine internal zoning while preserving the structural integrity of the crystal. Polish is excellent, with crisp facet junctions and mirror like surfaces that emphasize both brilliance and brilliance retention over time.

The mixed brilliant faceting geometry is the defining technical attribute that delivers exceptional light play in this sapphire. On the crown, traditional brilliant facets including bezel facets and star facets have been proportioned to scatter incident light into a high frequency of small, bright scintillation flashes. The pavilion departs from a full brilliant schema, utilizing a mixed arrangement that incorporates modified step and elongated pavilion facets deliberately angled to increase the number of internal reflections and to direct light back through the crown. This hybrid approach creates a multifaceted optical engine, where small, bright scintillation from the crown is complemented by larger flashes and a controlled return of color from the pavilion, producing a balanced display of scintillation, brightness, and contrast. Facet junctions are carefully aligned to maintain symmetry, and the crown to pavilion relationship has been calibrated to produce an even light pattern across the table and facets at varying viewing distances.

Proportions are a critical factor in the performance of any faceted sapphire, and this stone demonstrates well considered dimensions. Using the measured diameter and pavilion depth, the stone exhibits an overall depth of approximately 50.6 percent, a proportion that lies within the preferential range for balanced light return in round sapphires. This moderate depth supports efficient total internal reflection within the corundum matrix, while avoiding excessive light leakage that can occur with shallow cuts or light trapping that can occur with overly deep cuts. The table facet size has been cut to complement the crown geometry, preserving maximum dispersion and allowing the lively yellow tone to express without appearing washed out under typical lighting. Excellent polish ensures that facet planes act as highly reflective mirrors, reducing surface diffusion and maximizing internal contrast. The girdle has been executed to preserve mounting options, and the culet area has been shaped to avoid unwanted light leakage while maintaining structural soundness.

For the jeweller or collector concerned with end use and presentation, this Ceylon origin yellow sapphire offers versatility and refined optical performance. In a solitaire setting, the mixed brilliant faceting will present a lively scintillation field that catches both direct and diffuse light, creating a lively appearance on the finger. When set within a halo or textured mounting, the stone will maintain its visual presence due to the balanced interplay of brightness and color return, while the light yellow hue pairs harmoniously with warm yellow gold or with cooler metals such as platinum to accentuate either warmth or contrast respectively. The heat treatment applied is stable and common for Ceylon sapphires, having been executed to enhance color saturation without compromising clarity or polish, and The Natural Sapphire Company confirms origin and treatment in keeping with our gemological standards. For technically minded buyers who prioritize precise faceting geometry, controlled proportions, and verified provenance, this 1.11 carat mixed brilliant round yellow sapphire represents a meticulous example of craftsmanship and optical engineering, available for bespoke settings or as a refined addition to a connoisseur collection.
