Product description

This yellow sapphire is a transparent, natural corundum weighing 1.01 carats, presented in an elegant fancy shape, with precise dimensions of 6.42 x 7.08 x 3.31 mm. The stone has been cut in a mixed brilliant style to balance scintillation and broad face up color, and it displays an excellent polish that enhances light return across its facets. Clarity has been assessed as very slightly included when examined at eye level, which means the stone retains strong transparency while showing minor internal features that do not detract from its visual appeal. The color is described as light in intensity, offering a soft, sunny yellow tone that reads as delicate and refined rather than saturated and bold. This sapphire has been heat treated, a standard and stable enhancement applied to many sapphires to improve color uniformity and clarity, and the material is sourced from Ceylon Sri Lanka, a long established origin known for producing a wide range of attractive sapphire colors with character and subtle color zoning.

From a gemological perspective this sapphire benefits from the inherent durability of corundum, which rates nine on the Mohs hardness scale, making it suitable for a variety of jewelry applications including daily wear rings and pendants when set with appropriate protection. The mixed brilliant cut employed here was chosen to maximize the stone face up while retaining well proportioned pavilion facets to produce lively internal reflections. The excellent polish contributes to crisp facet junctions and controlled light leakage, resulting in a pleasing balance of brilliance and fire relative to the stone size. The very slightly included clarity grade indicates the presence of small, natural inclusions that can serve as internal fingerprints, confirming natural formation and serving as useful reference points for identification and appraisal. The light color intensity combined with the transparent body allows the gem to pick up ambient light and produce a luminous, soft yellow appearance that works well with yellow gold or warm tone metals as well as more neutral white metals for a contemporary look.

When compared with lab grown sapphires it is important to distinguish physical equivalence from experiential and provenance differences. Laboratory grown corundum can match natural stones in chemistry, crystal structure, and often in visual appearance under standard lighting, and these materials frequently offer excellent clarity and very controlled color, along with more economical pricing. Natural sapphires however retain attributes that many buyers and collectors value, including unique inclusions, natural growth patterns, and a geological history that cannot be replicated in a laboratory environment. The inclusions and internal signatures in a natural stone are part of its identity and can be used to establish origin and authenticity through advanced gemological testing. Supply and rarity dynamics also favor natural stones in terms of long term market perception, and stones with established origins, such as those from Ceylon Sri Lanka, carry an additional layer of provenance that may be desirable to those who collect or commission fine jewelry. Heat treatment in natural sapphires is an accepted, stable enhancement that improves visual qualities while preserving the stone as a natural product, and when disclosed it allows buyers to make informed comparisons with both untreated natural material and with lab grown alternatives.

This sapphire is well suited to bespoke and refined jewelry applications where subtlety of color and a distinctive shape are desired. The 6.42 x 7.08 x 3.31 mm dimensions and 1.01 carat weight make it appropriate for a single stone ring with protective prongs or a low profile bezel, and it will also serve as an elegant center for a pendant that highlights its mixed brilliant faceting. The light yellow tone provides versatility in metal pairing and will harmonize with 18 karat yellow gold for a warm presentation, or with platinum or white gold for a modern contrast that emphasizes the stone clarity and cut. At The Natural Sapphire Company we document each gem with its measured specifications, clarity and enhancement disclosures, and origin information to ensure transparent communication about the material you are considering. For clients interested in further technical detail we can provide additional photographs under varied lighting and discuss custom setting options and design considerations to protect and showcase the natural character of the sapphire.
