Product description

From the ancient highlands of Ceylon, where monsoon rains and volcanic soils conspired to create some of the world most treasured corundum, comes a single transparent yellowish green sapphire with a story that begins deep in the earth. Formed over millions of years under pressure and heat, this gem was revealed by careful, hands on mining in Sri Lanka, a place long revered for the lively character and depth of its sapphires. The piece that arrived at our workshop at The Natural Sapphire Company weighs 0.69 carat, and is fashioned into a delicate trillion shape, with precise dimensions of 4.95 x 6.10 x 3.47 mm. Its hue reads as an intriguing yellowish green with intense color intensity, and it shows an exceptional clarity grade described as very very slightly included when evaluated at eye level. This stone is untreated, with no enhancement applied, and it displays an excellent polish that allows light to move freely through its triangular planes. The journey from Ceylon soil to this finely formed gem is one of patience, respect for natural processes, and the artisanal choices that preserve the original character of the stone.

The next chapter of the sapphire story is written by cutters and polishers who understood how to coax life from the rough. Choosing the trillion cut for this gem was a deliberate decision to emphasize both color saturation and light performance. The triangular facets create a bold geometric face up, while the pavilion angles were adjusted to optimize internal reflections and to bring forward flashes of lime and deeper green as the stone moves. The cutter worked to maintain maximum transparency, trimming only what was required to remove surface irregularities, and polishing every facet to a mirror finish so that each plane returns light cleanly. Because the clarity is very very slightly included at eye level, inclusions are minimal and do not interfere with visual appeal, allowing the intense color to read triumphantly through the stone. At The Natural Sapphire Company our gem specialists examined the sapphire under multiple light sources and verified its hands off treatment history, ensuring that what you hold is a jewel that speaks honestly of its origin and its maker.

This sapphire also carries a cultural and historical resonance that enhances its allure. Ceylon has long been the source of sapphires that were prized by kings and collectors for their color and clarity, and the yellowish green tone of this example is relatively rare in comparison to the more commonly known blue and pink varieties. The combination of untreated provenance, strong color intensity, and the uncommon trillion cut makes this gem a storyteller piece, one that connects modern sensibilities with the long tradition of Sri Lankan gemcraft. Because no heat or other enhancement was applied, the stone retains its natural lattice and colorants, and that natural state is increasingly sought after by connoisseurs who prize authenticity. The small scale of this sapphire adds intimacy to the narrative, allowing it to be set as a focal point in a bespoke ring or pendant where its triangular silhouette will speak clearly, or to be preserved as a collectible loose gem for a cabinet of rarities.

Considering investment potential, this sapphire offers several encouraging attributes for future appreciation. Untreated sapphires from reputable origins command a premium because they are inherently rarer than treated material, and provenance from Ceylon carries strong market recognition and collector demand. The intense color intensity of this yellowish green tone, combined with very high clarity at eye level and an excellent polish, positions the stone in a quality bracket that collectors and fine jewelry buyers value. While 0.69 carat is modest in weight, per carat pricing often rewards exceptional color, cut, and treatment status more than sheer size, especially in colors that stand out from the crowd. Market trends over recent years show a steady increase in interest for unique colored sapphires as alternatives to more mainstream gemstones, and scarcity of untreated stones from classic sources suggests that well documented examples have real potential to appreciate. For those who plan to wear the stone, setting it in a refined, protective mount will preserve value and make it a striking personal treasure. For buyers who plan to hold the gemstone as an investment, we recommend obtaining an independent laboratory report to document origin and treatment status, and to consider secure storage and periodic appraisal. At The Natural Sapphire Company we are available to assist with certification, detailed condition reports, and bespoke setting options, and we are committed to helping clients understand both the emotional and financial dimensions of acquiring a gem of this character.
