Product description

This offering from The Natural Sapphire Company is a transparent yellow sapphire with a weight of 0.68 carat, set in a classic round outline. The measured dimensions are 5.15 x 5.16 x 3.58 mm, reflecting a carefully executed proportionality for this size range. The gem has been fashioned in a mixed brilliant cut, combining facets that emphasize both scintillation and color. Clarity is assessed as very very slightly included when viewed at eye level, indicating the stone appears clean to the unaided eye with only minor internal features detectable under magnification. Color is described as intense in saturation, presenting a vivid, warm yellow that is evenly distributed through the stone. The surface finish is graded as excellent polish, and the sapphire has been heat treated, a stable and commonly accepted enhancement used to optimize hue and clarity. The provenance is Ceylon Sri Lanka, a region historically associated with sapphires showing lively and saturated colors.

From an optical and material perspective this yellow sapphire exhibits characteristics that distinguish it from many more common colored gemstones. Corundum, the mineral species to which sapphire belongs, has a refractive index in the range that produces a strong adamantine luster, and a dispersion that is modest in comparison to diamond. Diamond displays higher dispersion and therefore greater fire, however corundum offers a combination of bright surface luster and sustained color saturation that many other gems lack. Compared with quartz varieties that are frequently seen in yellow tones, such as citrine, and compared with both natural and treated topaz, this sapphire displays considerably stronger light return and a more elegant, denser brilliance owing to corundum s higher refractive index. Compared with gem materials like moissanite, which exhibits intense brilliance and fire, sapphire provides a more restrained and classic light performance, favoring color depth and a refined sparkle rather than overt dispersion.

The mixed brilliant cut used for this round sapphire is intended to balance the demands of color concentration and optical performance. A mixed brilliant approach typically employs a brilliant facet arrangement on the crown to maximize scintillation, paired with pavilion faceting that controls light return and preserves saturation. In this specimen the cut proportions and the excellent polish enhance facet contrast, producing crisp scintillation and well defined facet reflections when the gem is set or moved. The intense yellow hue benefits from the cut, as the facet geometry encourages even color distribution and minimizes windowing that can desaturate smaller stones. The clarity grade of very very slightly included at eye level means that the visual presentation is clean when worn, with any internal characteristics confined to positions and sizes that do not disrupt the overall brilliance. Heat treatment, disclosed as the enhancement, is a stable process that improves the color balance and is broadly accepted in the trade, particularly for Sri Lankan sapphires where the treatment often brings forward the natural tonal qualities for which the region is prized.

For practical use and selection considerations this gemstone is well suited to fine jewelry applications where a vivid yellow focal point is desired, including solitaire rings, halo settings, and bespoke designs that take advantage of the round shape. With a hardness of nine on the Mohs scale corundum is suitable for everyday wear when set with sensible protection, although routine care to avoid hard knocks and exposure to harsh chemicals is recommended to maintain the excellent polish. The compact dimensions make it versatile for settings that require a clear, disciplined color presence without a large profile, and the strong color saturation allows it to read larger than its weight might suggest when viewed mounted. The Natural Sapphire Company can provide detailed imagery and further gemological information on request, and we can advise on mounting options that preserve the optical performance of the stone while ensuring durability and comfort.
