Product description

This heart shape bi color sapphire presents as a single translucent cabochon weighing 7.70 carat, with precise dimensions of 12.00 by 13.39 by 5.02 mm, and it exemplifies careful material selection and lapidary control. The cutting style is a classic cabochon, featuring a domed crown and smoothly contoured heart lobes that maintain consistent symmetry across the length and width, and the result is a pleasing heart outline suitable for intimate jewelry designs. Color distribution is parti color in character, exhibiting a well defined partition between a saturated blue and a pale green field, the overall color intensity evaluates as medium, and the translucency permits internal color diffusion without the specular sparkle of faceted stones. Clarity has been graded as included when assessed at eye level, and these internal features are visible as soft veils and thin feathers that contribute to the stone character and to light scattering, rather than as discrete, reflective crystal inclusions that would interrupt the domed surface reflections. The polish has been finished to an excellent level, producing a high gloss surface that reads clean to the eye and that reveals the cabochon profile in subtle, controlled highlights. Origin is Ceylon, Sri Lanka, a region with a long pedigree for producing parti color and bi color sapphires with attractive tone and crystalline habit. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this material as a natural, unenhanced sapphire, with no enhancement applied, and the absence of heat treatment or diffusion allows the native color distribution and inclusion texture to remain intact.

From a lapidary and gemological perspective, the cabochon cut is chosen intentionally to maximize the visual appeal of the parti color zoning, and the dome height relative to the length and width has been managed to balance color saturation with translucency. The crown exhibits a moderate rise, sufficient to allow depth of color under direct viewing, while the pavilion area has a controlled thickness of 5.02 mm that preserves durability and avoids undue brittleness at the girdle, which has been rounded and polished to integrate seamlessly into settings. The heart shape itself requires careful shaping of the cleft and lobes, and this example shows symmetrical lobes with a well proportioned cleft, indicating thoughtful preform selection from the rough and precise removal of weight to achieve the heart outline without compromising the parti color interface. Optical behavior is typical of corundum, with a refractive index in the range expected for natural sapphire and a low birefringence that renders color transitions softly rather than with pleochroic banding that would be more pronounced in faceted stones. Internal inclusions, described here as included at eye level, are distributed in a manner that softens light transmission and produces even color diffusion, a trait often sought after in cabochons for their gentle glow rather than mirror flash. The excellent polish, achieved through final micron level lap work, accentuates the cabochon luster and minimizes surface roughness that could otherwise trap dirt or obscure the color interface.

For practical use and design integration, this 7.70 carat heart shaped cabochon is exceptionally well suited to bezel set pendants, brooches, and protective ring mounts where the cabochon profile and included clarity are assets rather than liabilities. Given corundum hardness, this sapphire is robust for daily wear when properly set, nevertheless the presence of internal inclusions emphasizes the benefit of protective settings that shield the girdle and apex from edge knocks. The parti color split creates strong design opportunities, where the color boundary can be oriented to complement metal contrasts, viewer perspective, and skin tone, and the medium color intensity provides sufficient visual impact without overpowering the mounting. At The Natural Sapphire Company we curate such stones for clients who value natural color phenomena and lapidary expression, and we can assist with recommendations for mounting proportions, bezel depths, and surface finishes that preserve the cabochon geometry and highlight the parti color transition. Documentation regarding origin and treatment status can be provided upon request, and bespoke setting services are available to ensure that the technical attributes of this cabochon, including its 12.00 by 13.39 by 5.02 mm proportions, its included clarity at eye level, its medium color intensity, and its excellent polish, are translated into a finished piece that balances aesthetic intent with structural integrity.
