Product description

This exceptional specimen is a transparent, GIA certified orange 5.14 carat emerald cut orangish brown sapphire, with dimensions 9.51 by 8.19 by 6.42 mm, sourced from Ceylon Sri Lanka, heat treated to enhance color and stability. The stone exhibits vivid color intensity when viewed face up, and the emerald cut presents as a classic step cut with broad rectangular facets that emphasize color planes rather than scintillation. Clarity is graded eye clean at normal viewing distance, evaluated at eye level, and the excellent polish and careful facet junctions reveal a mirror like finish on the crown and pavilion facets. The gem has been meticulously cut to balance a generous table with stepped crown tiers, preserving depth to concentrate saturation, while the pavilion steps are angled to return warm orange and brown tones to the table, creating a lively yet sophisticated presentation that reads richer than a single hue.

The emerald cut faceting scheme on this sapphire has been executed with technical precision, featuring elongated step facets on the crown that transition into a series of descending pavilion steps, each facet plane aligned to maintain parallelism and symmetry across the girdle. The cutter prioritized facet plane regularity to minimize windowing and to maximize color saturation through controlled light leakage, producing broad color flash and subtle facet reflections rather than high brilliance. The table proportion has been set to present a strong, even color face up, while bezel and pavilion step angles control internal reflection and dispersion, leveraging corundum s refractive behavior to yield deep, even color. The result is a gemstone that demonstrates the trade off between optical return and color concentration that experienced cutters manage intentionally in Ceylon sapphires, the emerald cut here serving to showcase the stone s rich orangish brown tone with clarity and grace.

Under magnification the stone displays a suite of inclusions that form an unmistakable signature of its natural Ceylon origin, inclusions that are largely invisible to the unaided eye but that tell a detailed geological story to a trained observer. Fine silk formed by oriented rutile needles creates a delicate, sub micrometer network that once intersected, produces soft diffusion of light within the larger planes, subtly deepening the perceived hue without creating opacity. Scattered among the silk are occasional euhedral mineral crystals that register as bright, reflective pinpoints under loupe examination, their high relief and angular morphology providing diagnostic contrast to the linear silk. The sapphire also contains healed tension fractures and fingerprint like growth features, wispy trails of minute fluid inclusions that attest to the gem s thermal and pressure history, features that when viewed with fiber light show three dimensional growth zoning and healed planes. These inclusion types, taken together, act as a fingerprint for Sri Lankan corundum, they confirm natural formation in a gem bearing pegmatitic to metamorphic environment, and they respond to thermal enhancement by becoming less conspicuous while preserving the original internal pattern that trained gemmologists rely upon for origin and treatment assessment.

The combination of natural inclusion signature, precise cutting, and professional finishing make this sapphire an outstanding choice for collectors and designers who value technical excellence and provenance, offered by The Natural Sapphire Company with full GIA documentation. The excellent polish and tight symmetry ensure secure mounting and minimal light leakage when set, and the stone s hardness and stability as corundum lend durability for a variety of settings including bezel and four prong mounts designed to present the table for optimal face up color. Because the gem is heat treated, conventional jewelry care practices apply, avoiding sudden thermal shock and harsh chemicals, and routine inspection of mounting integrity will preserve the stone s long term performance. For buyers focused on the science of gemstones, this sapphire represents a textbook example of how controlled cutting and modest enhancement can combine with natural, microscopic inclusion features to produce a visually compelling, verifiable, and technically interesting gem, available through The Natural Sapphire Company with provenance from Ceylon and the assurance of GIA certification.
