Platinum 950 Three Stone Ring Setting
This custom made ring setting is engineered around the three stone concept, where a principal center gem is flanked by two tapered baguette side stones, the ensemble symbolizing past, present, and future with formal balance. The center gem can be specified in sapphire, ruby, emerald, or a calibrated colored gemstone, and the band metal is selectable from 14K Rose Gold, 18K Rose Gold, 14K White Gold, 18K White Gold, 14K Yellow Gold, 18K Yellow Gold, Platinum 950, 14K Yellow and White, 18K Yellow and White. For white accent diamonds in the pave band we recommend a grading window such as F to H color with VS to SI clarity to preserve visual continuity against a polished rose gold or white gold rail. In technical terms the ideal center gem for maximum brilliance is a round brilliant or modified brilliant cut, which optimizes pavilion angles for scintillation and spectral return. Tapered baguette side stones are executed as step cut facets, providing long parallel facets that reduce dispersion and act as optical wings, focusing light into the center. The pave detailing along the shank uses closely matched melee stones, hand set in bead and shared prong techniques to produce an uninterrupted field of light, while maintaining consistent girdle alignment and table elevation for even light return.
The setting architecture is designed to enhance both security and brilliance of the center stone through a combination of structural supports and optical engineering. A four prong basket with reinforced shoulders secures the center by capturing the girdle at mechanically favorable points, while an internal gallery and swept prong geometry distribute lateral forces into the band rather than into the stone. The tapered baguette flanks are shoulder set, providing transitional buttressing that resists side knock and stabilizes the visual axis. On the pavé shoulder, micro bead setting and low profile crowns keep the melee stones flush and prevent catching, while the minimal metal around each stone increases exposed facet area and therefore light return. Precise machining and hand finishing ensure uniform prong thickness and consistent seat depths, critical for protecting emeralds which typically require gentler handling due to natural inclusions, and for maintaining facet alignment in sapphires and rubies with strong color saturation. The result is a refined, elegant three stone ring that marries optical performance with durable craftsmanship, suitable for custom center stones of varying cuts and color grades.
