Product description

This transparent purplish blue sapphire weighs 1.04 carats, and presents in a refined cushion shape, dimensions 6.05, 4.95, 3.90 millimeters, cut to a mixed brilliant faceting schema that combines a brilliant crown with a modified pavilion geometry to maximize return of light while preserving weight and maintaining pavilion depth. Clarity is graded slightly included, evaluated at eye level, with small natural inclusions that do not detract from overall transparency, and that in fact provide authentication of natural origin. Color intensity is described as intense, with a well balanced purplish blue saturation that reads richer in the window of the table and subtly cooler near the girdle, and the stone exhibits an excellent polish across all facets, producing crisp facet junctions and lively facet contrast. Enhancement is heat treated, a stable and widely accepted practice in sapphire processing that optimizes tone and saturation by reducing silk and altering trace element valence, and the gem is sourced from Ceylon Sri Lanka, a classic provenance known for producing sapphires with vivid blue and violet components. The Natural Sapphire Company presents this stone with full technical transparency about treatment, cutting choices, and performance expectations, making it well suited for confident setting in a variety of fine jewelry designs.

Imagine the geological narrative that created this sapphire over millions of years, a story written in high pressure and elevated temperature within ancient metamorphic terrains. Deep in the crust, aluminum rich sediments and silica bearing fluids subjected to tectonic compression provided the necessary chemical ingredients, while trace amounts of iron, titanium, and chromium imparted the purplish blue hue through electronic transitions in the corundum lattice. Prolonged metamorphism allowed euhedral crystals to nucleate and grow, with minor inclusions of rutile or zircon becoming trapped as silk like evidence of growth conditions. Subsequent uplift and erosion liberated the crystals, which were concentrated in alluvial deposits and then recovered by artisanal mining in Sri Lanka. When the rough reached the bench, lapidary decisions focused on a mixed brilliant approach to enhance color depth and brilliance, balancing crown angle, pavilion depth, and culet considerations to achieve optimal light return and face up color. The final heat treatment was applied under controlled conditions to refine saturation, and meticulous polishing created excellent facet symmetry and surface condition. The end result is a scientifically complex and aesthetically compelling gemstone, offered by The Natural Sapphire Company, that communicates both its ancient origin and modern craftsmanship.
