This 0.85 carat oval purple star sapphire measures 6.29 x 3.92 x 3.46 mm, shaped as a classic cabochon to optimally reveal its natural asterism. The cutting style is a carefully proportioned dome with an even apex and symmetrical outline, enabling the light to engage the internal silk of rutile needles and produce a distinct six rayed star that coalesces at the dome apex. Clarity is graded very slightly included at eye level, the inclusions are fine and evenly dispersed, and they act as the structural network that generates the star rather than obscuring it. Color intensity is light, presenting a delicate purple tone with translucent bodycolor that allows the star to appear as a crisp, bright focal feature under direct light. Polish is excellent, creating a smooth surface that minimizes diffusion and enhances the sharpness of the star rays as they sweep across the dome. This specimen is untreated, no enhancement, and is sourced from Ceylon Sri Lanka, a provenance noted for producing asteriated sapphires with stable color and silky asterism, qualities we document here at The Natural Sapphire Company.
The star is a natural asterism formed by intersecting oriented rutile inclusions, visible as bright linear rays that converge to form a centered star which shifts and sharpens with changes in light angle and viewpoint. The rays are well defined against the pale purple ground, with primary axes aligned to the sapphire crystal structure and secondary diffusion creating a soft glow around the star under softer lighting. For the connoisseur, the gem offers both technical interest and romantic narrative, evoking a twilight sky captured in miniature, a star plucked from dusk to be worn close to the heart. Set in a low bezel to preserve the star geometry, this cabochon will read as an intimate nocturne, a subtle purple beacon that reflects The Natural Sapphire Company commitment to natural, well cut and ethically sourced stones.
