This transparent 3.53 carat oval pinkish purple sapphire is a finely proportioned gem that combines size, color and optical precision in a single stone. The measured dimensions are 10.67 by 8.08 by 4.85 millimeters, and the cutting style is faceted with a mixed brilliant cut designed to balance table presence and pavilion brilliance. With a calculated depth of approximately 51.7 percent the pavilion and crown relationship is tuned to return light efficiently, and the excellent polish further enhances that light return. Clarity is graded as eye clean when evaluated at eye level, which means that under normal viewing the stone displays no visible inclusions to distract from its vibrant body color. Color is intense and even throughout the oval, and importantly this sapphire is natural with no enhancement recorded, a rarity that adds measurable value when considering similar stones on the market.
From a gemological perspective this sapphire is exemplary in the primary criteria that informed buyers use when assessing corundum. As a corundum species the refractive index falls in the range of approximately 1.762 to 1.770, and the material shows low dispersion compared to diamond, which contributes to a pure, saturated color rather than a spangled spectrum of fire. The intense pinkish purple hue in this stone is evenly distributed and exhibits attractive internal saturation that reads as both vivid and lively in a variety of light sources. Eye clean clarity at this carat weight is significant because many sapphires of similar tone and size contain fractures, silk or crystals that alter the visual appeal. The absence of enhancement is an important factor for collectors and knowledgeable buyers because heat treatment and other modifications are common in the trade and influence both long term value and rarity. Origin is Madagascar, a source known for producing highly desirable corundum with clean crystallography and vibrant colors, and provenance from this region is increasingly sought after by informed purchasers.
When comparing brilliance to more commonly encountered gemstones it helps to consider material optics and cut. Diamond remains unsurpassed in terms of brilliance and fire because of its high refractive index and strong dispersion. However corundum offers a different visual reward. This pinkish purple sapphire, cut as a mixed brilliant, maximizes scintillation and contrast, producing a lively pattern of flashes that emphasizes color rather than spectral fire. Against stones like amethyst and quartz, which have lower refractive indices and softer colors, this sapphire will appear noticeably more vivid and lively. Against spinel and garnet, which can show excellent brilliance when well cut, this sapphire stands out because of its intense and rare hue combined with eye clean clarity and larger carat weight. Compared with rubies of similar weight and quality the optical behavior is similar, since both are corundum, but the pinkish purple tone here offers a niche appeal that is less common and therefore more collectible. For an educated buyer the combination of natural origin, untreated status, eye clean clarity, excellent polish, a thoughtful mixed brilliant oval cut and a practical depth ratio together create a stone that not only performs beautifully in jewelry but also represents a sound long term specimen. The Natural Sapphire Company is proud to present this sapphire as a demonstrable example of what serious collectors and discriminating clients seek in natural corundum.
